I cross the W Huron St and 7th St intersection everyday and I am worried one day I will get run over because the drivers do not seem to pay any attention to the pedestrians. Because the intersection is at an angle the drivers turning onto Huron St from 7th do not pay any attention to the pedestrians crossing Huron. Yesterday I started crossing Huron right as light turned green for me and had to wait in the middle of the intersection, because the cars turning into Huron would not stop for me. The cars were going to fast that if I tried to walk I was scared I would get run over. I ended up having to run as the light for me turned red before I was able to finish crossing Huron. One time a driver started yelling at me when I was crossing on the green light and they were the ones supposed to wait on me to cross. There is a school near by and I worry about the safety of the kids I see walking to and from school as well. I feel like the intersections is just getting more and more dangerous and the drivers drive way faster than the 35mph speed limit, and so there should be something done (additional light to people turning left, speed meter, another speed sign) to make this intersection safer.

For pedestrians, drivers need to slow down & honor the crosswalks, which means stopping before they’re in the middle of it. As this original poster noted, a pedestrian is on a fool’s errand if they think that drivers will grant walkers their crosswalk right-of-way.

I use this intersection daily as a driver.
1. People do not know how to maneuver an angled intersection, especially left turns off 7th.
2. Bushes obstruct the sidewalk view from 7th, making it hard to see walkers or bikes. A bicyclist road out from behind bushes into an active crosswalk (bicyclists riding fast into crosswalks is another issue) as I tried to make a right-on-red from 7th. Almost got hit.
3. Pedestrians still leaving corner to walk, after walk sign is flashing red, making it dangerous for the walker and leaving no time for drivers.
Really the best way to fix such a crazy light, which there are plenty of accidents at, even recently, is a left turn light. Going to slow things down, but makes everyone wait their turn. Somehow the city created this crazy angle situation many many years ago, through creating roads or sectioning property, now with the increase in population and traffic they need to take corrective action.

To clarify,, a left turn light on 7th.
I think a left turn light on Huron is harder. A left turn lane on Huron would really mess things up, unless maybe a straight-left lane with a green light, then left arrow signal on the inner lanes or just nothing on Huron.
