You could check in with the Housing Specialist at the Housing Court, located at the corner of Elm and Church. They should be able to tell you how to bring this to the court if it is something the court can act on. Look up Housing Session.

@ Pat Wallace...u r so right! The people in Housing Crt are just wonderful. To the tenants, take pictures of everything. Record any in person conversations you have. In order to solve the problem unfortunately you do have to contact LCI..they are not good about scheduling inspections but keep at them. The landlord then has 21 days to make things right. If nothing is fixed, LCI has to come back and document the problem still is there. Then and ONLY then can you file case in Housing Crt. Pike will lie and say their phone isn't working. They will try to offer you $$ rather than repair. Go to yelp.com and read the reviews. At present, the State of CT is investigating their illegal security deposit practices. THe hardest part of all of this is LCI. Unfortunately..After you get by them Housing Crt. is WONDERFUL!!! They are really an advocate for the tenant! Also, there is Fair Rent Cmsn. in City Hall. Otis Johnson, Jr is wonderful as well! GOOD GOOD LUCK!!!

Couple other things I forgot to mention. Once the paperwork goes in, once LCI starts moving and then the court if you have to go that far, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING PIKE CAN DO TO YOU THE TENANT!! They can say whatever they want to you, (record everything) but they CANNOT do anything to you..It is written into the LAW...Also, DO NOT STOP PAYING YOUR RENT UNTIL THE COURT TELLS YOU TO!!! THAT WILL GET YOU EVICTED. Once you go to court and get judgment in your favor, you will then pay your rent to the Court. Some day I should write all this down to make it easier for people! lol

@ Abby, The issue with other neighbors is that many don't/won't/can't support enforcing the code violations. It really doesn't matter as you know if others are affected by this...even IF it is only this one tenant, Pike has a responsibility to inspect and resolve the issue. Mice are filthy animals, they urinate almost constantly. So it really goes beyond not being fun. Imagine having a child and a mouse running over her face or biting her as she sleeps!!! There is a STRONG city ordinance regarding rodent infestation. Is there some reason you as the Alder for the area can't call LCI and get the ball rolling?
