Description
A crosswalk is needed in front of Green Fields Market. Many customers park on the opposite side of the street and need a safe way to cross the street to patronize the store. This happens all day, every day, and is a safety hazard and detrimental to local business. Action should be taken before someone gets hurt.

Here are a bunch of good folks complaining about a serious public safety concern and the reply from the DPW is a bunch of facts and figures on why it can't be fixed. The parking spots should be eliminated in favor of a crosswalk, especially now that we have the parking garage. Of course the 2 handicap spaces should be retained and moved appropriately. The entrance to 155 Main is rarely used, and there are plenty of crosswalks elsewhere in town that conflict with driveways - see the crosswalk outside of Wings across Federal St., conflicts with the entrance to the bank parking lot. The crosswalk outside the Recover project conflicts with Osgood St. The crosswalk outside Shelburne Falls coffee roasters conflicts with driveways on both sides. Considering the state of crosswalks elsewhere in town, if one were placed here it would not be inconsistent with crosswalk geometry elsewhere in town.
Speaking of bump-outs, one is sorely needed in front of the Main St. Grill. The parking spots closest to the crosswalk prevent pedestrians from being seen until they are already >10' into the roadway.
