Description
The cross walk from the T station (near Bertuccis) to the other side of CambridgePark Dr. is very poorly lit and has a problem with cars racing to make the traffic light to turn on to Alewife Brook Pkwy. There should be a crosswalk light installed there for pedestrian safety.

This crosswalk was signalized when the station was originally constructed, however the signal was removed approximately 20 years ago. Our experience with pedestrian only traffic signals in areas adjacent to MBTA stations where pedestrian volumes are heavy shows that pedestrians do not typically wait for the signal cycle. This actually can have the unintended effect of negatively impacting safety. Furthermore the placement of three traffic signals within 450 feet of roadway results in significant operational issues. Given these points, there is no plan to restore the traffic signal at this time.
We have ensured that there are pedestrian warning signs on both sides of the roadway and in the median, and pavement markings will be restored in the Spring as needed.
