Small businesses throughout DTSP also take a hit. Too noisy to eat out or enjoy anything along the water as noise and automotive pollution runs rampant. Also access to our beautiful waterfront is denied for weeks prior to and after this event. The post-race clean-up is minimal and much debris is left behind.
However, the worse thing is the denied or limited access to properties along the track, including the Hilton Hotel, that would greatly delay the response times of emergency vehicles. A disaster and a lawsuit for the city. It's just a matter of when. I support canceling the contract for future events starting with 2020.

While the event can be inconvenient it brings a lot of revenue to the city and to local business. Local businesses report 20-30% increases in revenue, the overall city sees an uptick of $48 million in revenue for food, bars, lodging, etc and $4 million in taxes. When you can switch this event out for something else with that much impact that is quiet and does not close down streets then please post a recommendation.

Despite what the Big Prix lovers say, I, for one, hate it, not for the noise but for exactly what the writer of this entry says, it ruins the water area south of Central for 6 blocks for over a month. And for what? A big waste of time that brings in lots of people who love cars and noise. If this is such a big deal for business just ask the business owners on Beach St. They will tell you its a ghost land until the Big Prix is over. I would like, for once, to see an accounting of all this vast money that it is supposed to be brought in by these gas hungry idiots. It is all just, "so and so says..." and, "it is said that ...", but no actual accounting to the public that puts up with this crap year after year. It might have made sense to those living in Old N E and "the island" back in the 90's to let morons race cars and make a lot of noise when there was nothing in the area south of Central on the water, except poor people who had no say in the matter. But now, there are many condos, apartment buildings and businesses in this area, let alone the Dali Museum, and the University. I applaud the writer of this piece, he or she says what should be said, if they want to race, do it some place where there are no people.
