Description

On Washington St. between Copper and Central, the bike lanes have been obliterated and need to be repainted. The lane on the northbound side was dug up and completely repaved last fall for replacement of water mains, and has not been repainted. The lane on the southbound side was badly abraded from sand, gravel, and construction both from the water repair and the redevelopment of the De Anza site on the west side of the street. There are a few small areas where bits of the striping paint survive. But one has to look hard to see them, and with the dirt in the lane I doubt many drivers even notice them. Driver behavior has gotten worse, from a bicylist's perspective, because poor changes to the signal timing have led to fewer vehicles on Washington being able to cross Central, and repainting the bike lanes will make it clearer to drivers that bicycles are supposed to have space when traversing this stretch of Washington.
