Totally agree!! And Clinton is just as bad if not worse and also a mine field where you have to avoid never ending pot holes! William st lights going West are also timed so that you must stop at every light! Please help it takes forever to get out of downtown!

Thank you for contacting the City of Huntsville - Traffic Engineering. The timing of the signals on Holmes Ave are set for a westbound progression. The new two way modification that allows drivers to proceed eastbound will see a more stop and go movement as the system is setup for westbound drivers. At some point in the future we will be adjusting the entire downtown signal system and at that point timing adjustments will be made. However since Holmes Ave is part of the downtown grid signal system and a modification to this one street will negatively effect the entire flow of the downtown area. We understand that the stop and go may seem out of step, but the faster access created by two waying Holmes should make up for the time not having to proceed down to Clinton. I understand the broader implications but if you are already allowing westbound traffic how could opening up eastbound traffic impact north/south traffic. Seems like they would be stopped due to westbound traffic anyway.
