Dirt Bike Hits School Bus
BY Staff | MAY 28, 2013 5:21 PM
A dirt biker collided with a school bus Tuesday afternoon, and ended up in the hospital.
No one on the bus was hurt. The accident happened at around 3 p.m.
Police spokesman Officer Dave Hartman said the school bus was stopped at the corner of Howe and Broadway when a guy on a dirt bike came by. He struck a side-view mirror on the bus and wiped out. The dirtbiker was taken to the hospital with a head injury, and was in stable condition, Hartman said.
“By the time police got there, some other citizens had removed the dirt bike,” Hartman said.
They have really gotten brazen....they aim right at moving cars....begging to hit them.....then who's fault is it!,, am urging all residents to go to management team meeting in Morris Cove on June 11 at the Firehouse.
I agree--- pack the meeting so we can discuss dirtbikes/motrocyclists/speeders and let's throw in trash all over our beautiful parks. Meeting is at 7? Bring your neighbors and let them hear our voices!
There were multiple quads and dirt bikes this weekend, near Edgewood park. Where were the cops? The guys were just lounging with these vehicles on the corner of Chapel and Ella Grasso. Once the cops start confiscating these vehicles, this bad behavior will improve...maybe only a bit, but it will improve. The only way to attack this behavior is with on-the-spot confiscation of the vehicles. Tickets and fines won't help as I doubt most of the perpetrators would write a check, put it in an envelope with a stamp and then put it in the mail to the city of New Haven. Immediate consequences are the best medicine for people who are going for the immediate thrills in life, without regard to longer-term consequences.
Can anyone create an online petition and a place where people can sign up , committing to go to the Mgt Team and the Bd of Aldermen. Pen names are fine on the sign up list but names are needed for a petition. Who is a computer person?
I will be closing dirt bike/ATV complaints that pre-date the conclusion of the police undercover operation (see www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/9_arrested_in_dirt_bike_sting/). I do not expect the dirt bike/ATV issue to be completely solved, but it will be helpful to policing efforts to distinguish new reports from those before this recent operation.
Please open up new SCF issues as dirt bike/ATV issues re-occur.
