Description

Dear Alameda Police,

I am writing to report graffiti that was sprayed all over the very nice mural on the side of one of the apartment homes on the Base. This past year, community members worked very hard to paint a nice picture of a mother or grandmother holding three happy children. It is a very larger mural - taking up the entire wall. Sometime overnight a person or persons has defaced it and sprayed red graffiti all over the mural. I cannot imagine how the mural will be fixed unless the entire wall is repainted and the project is started from scratch.

I'm requesting that you work with Doug from the APC collaborative because he may know who painted the original mural and hopefully they can restore it.

I'm also submitting this to you as the police because this was defacing of public property and a crime. We are seeing a lot of increased problems here - dumping of garbage in the area, cars doing sideshows again and again, increased graffiti, and now this. We need more police patrols in this area - not just a police response when there is an emergency. I'm hoping that APC may have a camera near this building and whomever did this could be caught. An appropriate punishment would be for them to have to repaint the wall, purchase supplies for the community to repaint the mural, and compensate the community for the lost time and effort. Their actions do not reflect the family and community minded spirit of residents on the Base.

Thank you.
