i completely agree. when it is dark or rainy outside, it is difficult for anyone to see a pedestrian and the signals are timed in such a way that they dont really give walkers anytime to cross.
Improvements are planned at this intersection as part of the Yale/Prospect Agreement between Yale University and the City of New Haven. A pedestrian signal is included. Mike.

When it's rainy and/or snowy pedestrians probably have no problem crossing as traffic is at a standstill - 4-6 pm ,any minor fender bender on 95/91 backs it up all the way to here.. Snowy makes the Edwards street hill unpassable as City trucks are unable to navigate it to salt/ sand ,
This MUST get fixed. I used to work at SOM and would have to cross the street on a regular basis, but with no crosswalks, no pedestrian signals, I was always risking getting injured or worse at this intersection. Additionally, with the food trucks at this intersection, it draws more and more people to this intersection making it even more of a problem during the lunch hours. I would think it's a liability for the city!
I agree this is a mess. When will the "planned" improvements be installed? It is unacceptable to wait for so many years for an improvement like this, without at least some other type of safety enhancement to tide things over in the meantime.
In the new design, will curb returns and crossing distances be reduced in order to improve safety?
