Encampments with loads of debris and blight cannot be allow to fester. Clean it up now! ...it is beginning to look like the Oakland side / Alameda tube entrance. Not acceptable for the amount of taxes we pay!
We spend a fortune in property taxes. Why are we not getting anywhere on this? We need to amend the city laws on this. There are PLENTY of options to obtain help; living on the street is not acceptable and we need to fix this asap.
Because Alameda doesn't have a facility to move them into e.g. shelter, the city attorney has directed that APD not do anything with the homeless camps.
A federal judge recently ruled in a case in Idaho that making homeless people move without a place to move them is cruel and unusual punishment. Since there is no where to move the homeless in Alameda, Alameda is following this decision.

thanks for re-opening this. don't let the worthless APD close this issue without fixing it so they can sweep it under the rug and make it look like they resolved it when they actually did nothing
shame on you apd. i dont even know you can sleep at night knowing what scum you guys are
The homeless camp springing up on Webster street is getting bigger by the day. Our west end community is in danger of becoming just as unsafe and filthy as it is on the Oakland side of the tube. I’m a homeowner and single parent in alameda and deeply concerned for the future of my neighborhood. What, if anything, can be done here?
What can be done? Keep the pressure on. Guaranteed there would be some major Nimby going if this was the Gold Coast. West End has always been the Big Island's dirty secret. City Council continues to virtue signal and promote their slogan "Everyone belongs". Substance and cerebral problems are at work here. The homeless moniker is an excuse to avoid the harsh reality. Thank the 9th Circuit for alot of this madness. Unacceptable and yes the new Home Depot is now at the #poseytriangle. ⏰⏰⏰
I called the police this morning about a body at central and Webster. The person looked dead. While I had them on the phone I asked what was being done about the encampment by the tube and they said nothing b/c there is no law that says they can’t live there. They said there are liaisons that go and regularly offer services but they are often refused. The only guidance the police had was to try to work with city council. APD can’t and won’t do anything.
Thank you for your notification. We are handling the homeless situation within the guidelines that are given to us.

The City often defaults to the 9th Circuit's Boise decision. The City Council takes the lead on this matter: virtue signaling (Everyone Belongs) is the mantra.
Interesting that the City of Austin, Tx has had enough and decided to put an end to this madness. Alameda could do the same...🤔⏰⏰⏰

This is Caltrans property. City has contracted Caltrans to take action and is willing to coordinate efforts to clean-up the encampment. Caltrans has to initiate the closure of this encampment, as this is their property. Outreach is aware of this site and visits the encampment regularly to offer services and connect individuals to resources.
