Can anyone--a city councilor perhaps or the city clerk--explain Quincy's laws or regulations regarding snow removal? I understand residents are not required to shovel their sidewalks, but what about business, commercial properties, apartment buildings, and the like? If there is a requirement, what is the penalty for not complying? We go through this every year. May Koch: Let's stop talking about building more new structures and begin to address quality-of-life issues for current residents. Thanks.

The tenant, occupant, and, in case there shall be no tenant, the owner of any store bordering on any sidewalk, shall, after the ceasing to fall of any snow, if in the daytime within five hours, and if in the nighttime before one p.m. of the succeeding day, cause the same to be removed therefrom.
