Description
My neighbors have set up barricades to stop the water runoff from the roads from getting into their yard(s). Of the entirety of this road, this small section is in the absolute worst condition. I recently had to junk my vehicle because I couldn't afford to replace my front suspension. I have a very strong suspicion that the barricades are the reason the road has been washing out so badly, quickly, and often. If the barricades are legal and cannot be forced to be removed by the city then something major needs to happen to fix the issue. When filling this complaint I saw a similar post by a neighbor from last year complaining about it their barricade at the bottom of their driveway being graded out. Please either continue to do so and remove the wooden barricade I pictured as well, or come up with an alternative solution to fix the runoff and preserve the road (and all of our vehicles).

A few years ago a change was needed to address the persistence of standing water on the north side of the intersection of Dexter and Barber, and the many complaints of flooding. A ditch and berm were constructed along the south side of Dexter road across my lot. Consequently it forces the water thru my property and down Barber Avenue, and forces even more water down Dupont Circle and into many of the lots and homes of our nearby neighbors.
Currently the solution has been to spread increasing amounts dirt and gravel onto Barber during the road grading seasons. Yes, at one point my driveway and lot (and most of our neighbors) was well above the road grade. But now the road bed is at a much higher level than 5 years ago. I bought 2 yards of gravel and hand shoveled and graded the end of my driveway for two safety issues: 1) an attempt to slow down the number of drivers using my driveway to execute a high speed turn around and 2) attempt to stop water from running up my driveway and turning it into an ice skating rink and mosquito breeding pond. When the city veered out of the roadway during a routine grading and used my gravel for their explicit purpose, I filed a complaint.
I agree with you but only from the stand point of the road being in need of attention to smooth out the many pot holes and washouts. In fact all of the gravel dirt roads in the neighborhood, city, county, and state need attention right now. The end of winter is near and it will soon be possible to grade the roads again. Hopefully that will help improve your vehicles normal wear and tear.
Please come over and talk with me.

The city is just treating your section as a river and that is not right.
Sorry. Your neighbor
