A)looks like a black olive tree...they are not hurricane friendly and unless properly maintained can be a nightmare when a hurricane impacts and branches break and go everywhere too.
B) as far as I know if it’s inside the sidewalk on the owners property they can bring it down if they like. Granted there are exceptions like you can’t take down a 100 year old oak tree but a black olive of any size inside your property line is fair game to be taken down to the stump....at least that’s how it is in Miami dade and they are very very strict about things like this
Thanks, FYI trees are protected in Miami dade county as well. Judging by the sidewalk repair and what looks like visible roots on the surface this tree was causing some damage. Maybe even messing with the plumbing. Definitely a giant tree that if not hurricane proofed could topple onto the house.
Don’t get me wrong I’m a plant and tree lover, just sometimes there’s legitimate reasons to bring down a tree.
Hopefully they plant some other trees to replace what looked like a magnificent tree. New trees with less aggressive root systems that are not on the county do not plant list.
