Description
Any chance, with all the other construction along Hardscrabble, that a right turn lane is going to be created for northbound drivers on King Rd to turn right onto Hardscrabble? Every weekday morning, I sit in a long line of traffic on King Rd that is all waiting to turn right onto Hardscrabble Rd, and the single car that is continuing north on King Rd prevents the entire line of cars from turning onto Hardscrabble. It's even worse once the school zone lights are flashing, as that traffic backs up in front of Roswell High School back to 92. It's a complete nightmare.

My apologies as I was unaware this was assigned to me in Traffic Operations rather than to our Engineering Design section. We have responded to a few similar inquiries regarding the lack of turn lanes, with the NB-to-EB right-turn lane being a particular deficiency, so it is possible we may have already responded via a different channel.
Unfortunately, at the time that the Hardscrabble Road greenway and roundabout project was funded, there were not adequate funds to also reconstruct the intersection of Hardscrabble at King Road. Any significant rework of any of the intersection quadrants would trigger a significant redesign of the whole intersection, including drainage, utilities and signalization, and there was not enough budget to stretch it to include all that was needed. However, this intersection is one of our critical bottlenecks in the city, and we are fully aware of the level-of-service deficiencies you have identified -- staff would have very much liked to have improved this intersection as well when we reconstructed Hardscrabble. We do have a few design options that are being evaluated, including a roundabout, including a 5-leg roundabout that could serve Roswell High School. Staff hopes to be able to add a reconstruction project for this intersection as part of future capital budget requests.
If you have any additional question, please feel free to contact me.
