PLEASE fix the problem with sequencing at this intersection. We keep asking and we would like to have someone report back to PSNA on the effects of the new design on vehicle, bike and foot traffic through this intersection.

For the morning commute this is probably the strongest example of the negative effect of traffic calming on flow from side streets. Some congestion has been kicked upstream from Harvard but the result is gridlock at most intersections north of porter, which ends up affecting the other side of mass ave as well.

Thanks for your report. As you are aware, we’ve experienced coordination issues with the timing of the lights in Porter Square following the implementation of the new traffic pattern. We’re working as fast as possible on installing wireless communication between intersections to ensure that they do not fall out of sync but in the interim we are adjusting the timing manually as necessary to fix the congestion issues.

The timing has been off for years. When I submitted a complaint I was told there were changes coming that would fix this. It has not fixed it. Making the light red at Upland Rd for the westbound traffic would go a long way to keeping the area in front of the T station open for more cars coming off Upland Rd. This intersection is dangerous for people, bikes and vehicles. Something INCLUDING POLICE ENFORCMENT of traffic laws needs to be done ASAP. We have waited long enough.
