We are a mixed-age community with a large number of older people who are health conscious and enjoy the proximity and beauty of Jamaica Pond for walking.Getting across the street to the pond is areal challenge for anyone but particularly for older people who have slower reflexes.The extreme danger is due to speeding cars, blind corners, and no direct traffic- light controlled crosswalk.
Please fix the problem.We truly are an island whose only safe access is by car. In today's world, for both health and environmental issues, this needs fixing.

I typically can be rather verbose, but on this particular subject I prefer to express my opinion quite succinctly. To the City of Boston, I say in three words: FIX IT PLEASE

A woman was seriously hurt while crossing. Where is the City, where are our reps? Over 300 people (taxpayers/voters) living in our 160 units and we cannot get across the Perkins St. speedway! Mayor Menino get on this, please.

I have been a resident at Cabot Estates for over 30 years. We have tried and tried with no success to have this issue dealt with.All I can say is "FIX THIS NOW" before another serious accident occurs.

One of our residents has been very seriously injured at the crossing to the Jamaica Pond. This spot has been "an accident waiting to happen." We have people here of all ages and stages with baby carriages, dogs, and canes! Surely, speed bumps, or flashing lights, or signs or others devices can be utilized to protect us.

We have a young daughter and find it quite dangerous to cross the street with her in the stroller. Please fix this!

Cynics might observe, "Too bad the woman who was hit and nearly killed wasn't a professional ball player -- maybe then the situation would be worthy of attention and action would finally be taken." Meanwhile friends, did you know that crossing to the Pond via the crosswalks will "only" require that you walk back into Brookline up Chestnut St, crossing at Franklin; walk back toward the Pond, traveling on Pond to the next crosswalk where you can safely cross, then just loop back to Chestnut, up to Perkins. Cross at the lights back into JP and over to the Pond. Total distance? Just a tiny bit over 2 miles!!! When you're finished at the Pond, just allow time to walk the 2+ miles back home. (Two of us took our dogs for a walk and scouted it out shortly after Friday's tragedy,) Then again, we could always drive. ...

A blinking yellow traffic light with a push button to halt speeding vehicles and enable persons to cross this generally dangerous street is sorely needed.

I agree with Gordon about the flashing light and pushbutton walk signal - which should also slow traffic in general. And a handicap accessible curb cut would make the pond more easily used by those in wheelchairs, pushing baby strollers, etc.

How many of us who are affected by this dangerous situation are voters? I know it's a high percentage because I see a lot of you at the polls when I'm there voting. Writing letters and contacting the media about the City's on-going neglect of this issue is important. We need also need to put Senator Sonia Chang-Díaz & Rep Jeffrey Sanchez on alert that their claim to represent our interests has the perfect credibility test right here. We are not victims here; we CAN hold them accountable for finding a solution before someone gets killed.

Take a look at the image I've uploaded here. It shows the only route for walking to the Pond via crosswalks. It is 2+ miles. And all the crosswalks except the last one are in Brookline. (I suppose we could all just drive to the Pond ....).
Take 2 seconds and let the people on our payroll know what you think is important.
And BTW ... they're both up for re-election.

To help with my breathing difficulty, I carry oxygen, I need to walk around Jamaica Pond several times a week. I do this with my puppy. When crossing Perkins St. from the entrance of Cabot to the Pond, I am always in total fear. We need to cross rapidly which as you can see is very difficult for me to do under the circumstances. Maybe I should simply drive!

The reason you haven't had any success in "decades" is because there is already a major pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Chestnut and Perkins. There's a crosswalk that runs all the way from your private community's driveway, to that intersection. If you don't like how long the walk is, then have your condo association create a path that is more direct to that intersection.
