This has been a BIG issue with all areas, including Harbour Crest. The drug dealers like to do their transactions at the entrance on the hill to the complex. Remember this is the same area where kids wait for their school bus!! They do not need to be exposed to this!!!! This is ridiculous!!!!!. I have lived here for many years and contemplated on moving and loosing out on money, but cannot sell my unit for peanuts if I wanted to. NHPD needs to get their act together and start making our area on Quinnipiac Ave a better, safer community.

I live in one of the condo complexes on Quinnipiac. We have been complaining to the NHPD/Sgt. Anastasio, the Mayor's office for years now. You said it right. The drug dealers operate with complete immunity.

There HAS to be an answer to this. I am earlier on Quinnipiac, in the 1000's area, but I see this ramping up here too. Homeowner's and condo owner's pay exorbitant taxes on their properties, but even if you take away that fact, this is an issue that the City should be pursuing with diligence. Drag racing, drug dealing, illegal bikes and quads up and down the road (yes, despite the recent much appreciated sting it is still occurring), trash wantonly thrown in the street and yards, is there any better definition of a quality of life issue? Quinnipiac Ave residents seem to have been forgotten except for July and December when the tax bill comes due. WHY are we putting up with this??? What can we do to address it???

Yes , I agree there is alot of drug activity in the area's between the 1000 block and the 1400's block..within those blocks there are 5 to 6 housing complex's and then you go to Eastern street and there is 5 more complex's..The Police coverage could be better and will get better as we now have a walking/bicycle beat that concentrates on Rt.80 / Quinnipiac Ave. and Eastern street. And we are graduating another 27 officers very soon that will help alot.We have made numerous drug arrests in the past year in preciously the areas you are talking about...very tough to keep these persons in jail for any length of time to make a difference. And they come right back out and do the things that they only know how to do and it appears to the community that the Police dont do their job..Not true ...we will continue to our best with what we have...However , a block watch in your neighborhood at 1425 Quinnipiac Ave. would be perfect to combat these issues..Call the non emergency number 203-946-6316 and ask to speak to Savannah Smith about the Block watches.

There is a Quinnipiac East Management team meeting on 7/9 at 7pm locate at the Ross-Woodward school, it would be a great place to voice your concerns as many key people from the City will be present. Thanks Sgt. Anastasio for responding back. It's unfortunate however that what you said is very true, but having 1 walking beat for the entire district is a very slow start. I have faith in NHPD that things will change but a lot of us concerned citizens are at our wits end with the drugs, violence and the quality of life. I am hoping now that there are bicycles available for the walking beat that we will see them closer to our end of Quinnipiac Ave. In response to the block watch, Hidden Quarry has had an active block watch for about a year now but I feel like it does nothing different from when a regular citizen contacts NHPD.

There is a block watch at 1425 Quinnipiac Ave. We are the people who call and text you, call the police department's complaint number, and put things on SeeClickFix. There are about 7 truly active members. The 1425 Quinnipiac Ave block watch was represented at the Chief's block watch meeting on the 5th. We are as frustrated as you. We complain, you arrest them, they get back out, go to the same area where relatives/girlfriends live and continue breaking the law. Most of the people selling drugs are not on the lease in the public housing projects, yet they live there. One of the most egregious violators, who has a flock of people hanging around her unit at 1435 Quinnipiac, works for the city, and should know better. I believe she works in the parking ticket unit.The police need to have the support of the New Haven Housing Authority. Yes, there are procedures that have to be followed before someone is evicted. I suggest that the property manager of 1435 make unannounced drive throughs, including after midnight and personally documetnt the violations being committed. The Housing Authority needs to take responsibility for their tenants. The block watch has called the police numerous times, and many times no one showed up. We realize this is an 8 mile long district and there are too few officers. It could also be because 1435 is not marked, even though the Fire Department supposedly told them to put up a sign with the street number and name of the complex on it. We look forward to the new officers that you wrote about. We have asked to meet with the HANH and with Trinity the property managers of 1435, again.We also help pay for subsidized housing. We want accountability from them. We pay too many taxes on top of our mortgages to watch our neighborhood go down the toilet. Thak you, Sgt. Anastasio for your response to this on-going problem. Want my quinnipiac ave back- you could not have said it better. We pay the highest taxes just so the City could build more housing projects that the NH housing authority takes no responsibility and lets the drugs run rampant. There is so much drug activity in the 1425 Quinnipiac Ave area it is so frustrating, we have tried to work with NHPD and Sgt. Anastasio and each year it gets worse. This community is absolutely ruined. With regards to the comment made by Sgt. Anastasio, its been the same drug dealers and the same houses on Quinnipiac Ave. selling drugs surrounding St. Anthonys 1,2, and Quinnipiac Terrace. I can't recall a single drug raid in any of these locations, please correct me if I'm wrong, all this takes place in less than 1500 feet of Bishop Woods school. Why haven't there been any drug raids if you know where these people live? Hidden Quarry, Cherry Hill and Harbour Crest are completely littered with drug baggies, paraphernalia and the quality of life crimes that continue every day. As district manager, and the knowledge that there is a drug problem between Eastern Circle, Bella Vista and Quinnipiac Ave. why have you not asked for the resources of the DEA, State wide Narcotics or the FBI Safe street task force??

To concerned citizen - Thats a very good point - all I will say is that part of the R2 roundup included boys from 1425 Quinnipiac Avenue..we did a raid at 1134 Quinnipiac avenue (Essex townhouses) 2 weeks ago .. we have done alot of work in these areas this past year with several arrests made and several people evicted from these premises..Im as frustrated as you are because this Police Department works hard everyday to strive for one goal..a better Quality of Life for everybody..and we continue everyday on Quinnipiac , Eastern , Donna Drive ..Fair Haven Heights , Annex and Morris Cove..They have all similar issues , some larger than others but we help everybody as much as we can..everyday..I hope you attend the Management team meeting in July..

With all respect then, where are the resources to deal with this: Now 11PM. Since 9:30 tonight just about a constant stream of fireworks in the 1000 block area. Going on as I write. My poor Golden Retriever is literally shaking. And we're almost two weeks away from the 4th. What does that imply we'll have to deal with then? These ARE illegal, and it's 11PM. Just a drive-bye and slow down of a unit would be something, no? This REALLY need to be addressed, if not anything else at the very least this happening after 10PM.

Yeah, definitely going to have to sleep with ear plugs in again. Nothing but fireworks, dirt bikes, and booming music for the last 3 hours. I bet it was quieter in Dresden.

I don't know if it was the same pyrotechnic display, but I heard a steady stream of fireworks going off in my area, too. Must be nice to be able to afford something like that.

I live parallel to Quinnipiac; not close enough to directly share the pain of the experiences you detail here, but certainly close enough to feel the "spillover" effect. If drugs, noise, etc are not dealt with when there are such blatant offenses such as those shared by the folks here, then I have no hope of saving my neighborhood. I am watching the demise of my neighborhood: original homeowners are selling and even taking on new mortgages just to get away from the new people who've moved into previously quiet, respectful neighborhoods and trashed them (drugs, dirt bikes...YES...they are STILL HERE and ride on the streets daily and homeowners STILL use their own custom-built ramps into the Bishop Woods Bird Sanctuary). They feel entitled and have no respect for themselves or others. As for the pyrotechnics: there is a resident near to my condo (and between where I am and where you folks on Quinnipiac are) who has a picnic and YEARLY, like clockwork, sets off a fireworks display that goes on for at least 20 min sustained. It's all professional, high quality stuff. People ask for police/fire coverage well before July 4th (or that weekend if the 4th comes on a weekday) because we all know we'll have noise that'll scare our pets to death and also we'll have hot embers that could make surrounding Bishop Woods or our condo/house rooftops ignite in a second. Nothing. Every year, same thing. It's so predictable it's ridiculous. Why do police look the other way? I'm sorry but I have become cynical and can no longer stomach the "you don't know how much we do" stance given by police, LCI, etc. Through my eyes, I see a (growing) portion of New Haven residents literally taking over the City, bulldozing anyone in their path. Yes, we have a block watch where I am, and I sympathize with others who've posted because we also only have handful of people left who will/can actually take any action. The reality is that often it's the block watch members themselves committing the crime! Otherwise the offenders can easily narrow down who might've filed the complaint because there are so few "regulars" calling police. The fear of retaliation is quite real. I know"Text a Tip" is supposed to alleviate that but my guess is no one ever reads those things, let alone passes them onto police. Even further, I have had PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with making a police complaint, requesting that said complaint remain anonymous, and having someone (dispacher? Officer?) disclose information that should not have been shared. I've been to community meetings where others say the same. If we can't trust that police will keep our complaints anonymous and, further, actually respond to a complaint/issue, what hope is there?

Please come to the next Quinnipiac East Management Team Meeting on August 6, 2013 at Ross-Woodward School at 7 pm. Come a few minutes early if you can. We are really pulling together. At the last QEMT meeting earlier this week someone else made a complaint aboout a police dispatcher warning a relative in our area when someone makes a complaint about drug dealing. This is a very serious matter and Sgt Anastasio assured us that this is being investigated.

If the residents that are causing problems live in Housing Authority units I invite you to the next meeting that representatives of Hidden Quarry and Harbor Crest will be having with with Housing Authority officials. Update - Trinity Management and the Housing Authority have both stepped up and have giving the Police Department financial resources to put private duty in these locations on Quinnipiac Avenue , also the new walking beat team will now be equipped with new bicycles to cover more ground and they will be able to patrol these complex areas more consistantly...at the end of July ..the Police Department will be graduating 27 officers from the academy with 2 to 3 of them going to each district...absentee landlords and property managers need to be responsible..The community needs to hold them accountable..The majority of those who are causing these issues have been documented by the police several times...Give me a name and ill show you a rap sheet..Please dont say the Police dont do anything...Its a revolving door that makes everyone frustrated...Call the substation with any information that you have ..I promise it will remain anonymous...203-946-7163

I do not live on Q Ave, but I live just a few streets away. Same here: drug dealing right out in the open. Very blatant. Many here have reported it and supplied info, but nothing happens. I'm not sure when drug dealing lost its priority as a crime that police respond to!??

There is one guy who lives on foxon hill road who has been driving through my neighborhood for YEARS blasting his music so loud it shakes my house. When I called the non-emergency line the guy tried to tell me that since it's the daytime he can blast his music as loud as he wants to! When I pointed out that we have a noise ordinance that says otherwise he was like "I'm not going to debate the ordinances with you". I tried to post the information here but apparently posting a license plate number isn't permissible...
