Agree with the description.The road has enough space to have one car and a bike lane. This road is widely used by many to access Downtown Jersey city / Hoboken.

No one is going to make that road "safe" for bikers. Use another road.

Seriously??? There's very few roads between Hoboken/Downtown Jersey City and the Heights fit for bikers already. And none of them have dedicated bike lanes. Hoboken is more than wide enough to accommodate both cars and bikes if properly marked.

Use Mountain Road at Franklin. It was re engineered at enormous expense. Our roads were built for carriages, not cars. The Palisade hill has many many roads like this and each is prioritized. If you do not feel safe take the Franklin Road. Bike lanes do not exist on every street for a variety of reasons.It took us over 25 years to get changes made to Franklin. That was when the DOT had money. Now the transportation trust fund is broke. NJ does not tax gas enough to support road repair. It took 80 years to fix the main bridge between JC and Newark, used by everyone going to NYC. I am a neighbor , not an official. Read the New York Times or the Journal, or both and they will fill you in.

Really? You're suggesting a narrow, steep, ONE-WAY street that's ridiculously hard for most bicyclists to go up and dangerously curvy and steep to go down. Now I know you don't care for bikers' safety at all. Ugh. Forget you.

@marymock - I understand that your friend was hit by a bicyclist on sidewalk and I pray for his quick recovery.
In order for cyclists not to ride on sidewalk we need this road to have at least some kind of sign, so that cars know that they are sharing the street with bicyclists and cannot speed / take sharp turn at the corner.

Yes you are right hotapr. Thanks. The sidewalk problem is mostly on Central Ave. Signage here does only so much. I would not use Hoboken Ave. Its just too dangerous with or without signs. A friend of mine actually had a heart attack while trying to get up that road on a bike. Its just dangerous.

Maybe Traffic can resolve the lane painting for the road.

The Sgt Anthony Park Association has requested that this road add a two way bike lane. This will help prevent future accidents especially as a new park is being implemented next to the new building.

I agree. I most frequently drive up it but sometime I or my husband go up/down on a bike. It would be nice to have some deticated lanes. Also people whip up that hill going like 40+ mph. If you are going slower the swerve around you which is also a hazard for the other drivers but any potential pedestrians or bikers in the area.

The danger on the street is the fact that the two painted lanes disappear. We bikers are extremely used to sharing the road, but the danger of that hill is a hairpin turn where drivers start careening all over because the divider disappears. For some citizens, it’s the most convenient street, as I live near it and work in Hoboken. What needs to be addressed is the lack of lane division and the reckless speeding.

This street has become more dangerous as people have started parking cars illegally on both side of the street. Specially when you are going with kids, it is extremely dangerous to cross the street to go towards the 2nd street light rail station.

Thanks to whoever put No Parking signs on the street. The street looks much cleaner now without illegally parked cars.

When someone on the bike is swerving all over the place which I see alot of its a danger for anyone on the road. I'm tired of getting my car punched my some biker on my way to work because I decide thats its safer to drive around him so noone. I'm not saying all bikers are irresponsible but its just easier for them to complain about people who actually own cars. Some dude almost broke my window because I tried to avoid hitting him. Now how is that smart?

Gee these issues seem small now with the plague of Ebikes and Escooters on the streets. Bike lanes have done nothing but exacerbate the already horrible parking and traffic problems

This issue is constantly offered as "You may also like this".
It was originally reported more than 11 years ago.
In the past year, the bike lane has been made 2-way, up- and downhill. It's 1-way uphill for cars.
It seems to me that the issue has been addressed and corrected, which is admittedly exceptional on SeeClickFix.
I think it's time to close the issue.
