The speed limit on South Van Ness is and will always be 25 MPH. The majority of vehicles travel above the speed limit, but although informed, the SFPD, SFMTA, and elected officials do little or nothing to solve the problem. Mission residents and visitors including children, the elderly, pedestrians, and bicyclists are at significant risk and danger from speeding vehicular traffic.

Thank you for submitting this request to the City Attorney's Office. We are in the process of researching this issue and communicating with other city departments to address this issue. I also recommend working with members of the Board of Supervisors to address this ongoing problem. Depending on which part of South Van Ness Avenue you are most concerned about, this probably falls in District 6 (Supervisor Jane Kim) or District 9 (Supervisor David Campos).
