The algae is as bad, if not worse, than it has ever been. It looks horrible and it smells worse. They started to do some work, lowered the water and then the rain started, and so all work ceased.
I also live close to Lagoon #3. A group of us a have been working with the city of Alameda Public Works to get a plan in place to resolve this ongoing hazardous mess. A couple of years ago, we met with Ezzy Ashcraft and Liam Garland who said that the biggest problem was finding a place to dump the toxic material in lagoon #3. There have been weekly efforts to vacuum the muck, but so far, no long term plan to clean up the lagoon that I am aware of. How about a real response and update from the Public Works instead of computer driven canned responses? Thanks.

what has been addressed? Does Public Works have an action plan for Lagoon #3? If so, please share with the neighborhood group in this thread. If not, then it may be time to escalate once again.
Algae at another high point today and still nothing from the city. Please stop closing this request until you’ve actually taken care of this issue. Yesterday, the city’s crew came out and sprayed the algae with a high-powered sprayer, but did nothing else. That isn’t doing anything to solve the algae problem. Please take this seriously!
Attached are photos of today's (6/22) algae conditions on lagoon #3 looking west from Oak and Powell. Also, attached are photos taken at Grand from both directions. While not pristine, the lagoon water at Grand is significantly clear of algae. Also, included is a newish looking ramp and pump(?). Why is this? Do the lagoon home owners at Grand street have more clout?
It's probably easier to remove with the water up. The photo #4 of the Grand St. view is probably algae free not due to money but the wind blowing it to the other end where it is collecting in front of South Shore. Perhaps they could get one of those algae chopping boats like the one they have at Lake Merrit and I think also on the lagoon in Bay Farm.

Why does the city keep closing this without addressing the problem? Driving by and taking a look does not equal resolution. This pattern of doing nothing and then closing this issue is shameful. Please take this seriously and do something about the algae!

Sending out a vacuum truck for two hours to suck up some small bit of algae is not addressing the request - it doesn't even scratch the surface. Please actually DO something and RESOLVE the matter versus just trying to rush and close requests.
Friday, I observed two contractors haphazardly scooping stuff out of the lagoon with small nets, not very effective. Later in the day the Public Works pumped some of the surface algae. I drove by later and there was very little improvement to the conditions in lagoon #3. However, Grand St looks pretty good. What is the long term plan, if any, and who is the lead from the City?
This past Friday, the City's contractor determined that the material in lagoon 3 is actually decomposing algae from a treatment that was applied in May. This is not new algal growth. The contractor will continue to monitor this area and will recommend treatment if new growth appears. This area is scheduled to be dredged at the next annual lowering, which will improve the depth and overall quality of this corner of lagoon 3. Thank you.
