STOP sign application is regulated by federal guidelines. STOP sign should be installed in a manner that minimizes the numbers of vehicles having to stop. In most cases, the street carrying the lowest volume of traffic should be stopped. In order to qualify for a multiway STOP control, the combined vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle volume entering the intersection from the minor street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 200 units per hour for 8 hours during a day. Total vehicular volume entering the intersection from major street approaches (total of both approaches) averages at least 300 vehicles per hour for any 8 hours of the day.
Preliminary multiway stop warrant study was completed for the intersection of Montgomery Road at Bellance Dr/Marbuck Way with the approach volumes collected during a turning movement count on June 4th, 2019. Since federal warrants at this intersection are not satisfied, a mulitway stop is not recommended at this intersection.
We did not order the traffic count for the intersection of Montgomery Road and Rockburn Woods Way/Rockburn Branch Park Rd since this minor approach carries less traffic volume than the other intersection.
A speed study can be ordered when HCPPS is reopened to determine the eligibility of marked crosswalks at these intersections.
