The Traffic Division is currently in the process of collecting traffic count data in order to conduct a traffic study to determine if an all-way stop is warranted at this intersection. Please allow 3 to 4 months for this study to be completed.

Some towns have a disproportionate share of out of town car drivers. Jersey city is one of them , where folks park cars to use the path station, or there is an increased concentration of out of town uber/Lyft drivers. In addition it has a high concentration of private day care etc and an increasing residential concentration and holiday visitors. An active night life is yet another differentiating factor versus other towns. These reasons alone require more unique solutions, possibly closer to what New York has , to deal with traffic stops/notices/signs.

I agree with the previous comment and that there is certain amount of out of town traffic on this street. The lack of stop signs on Warren St was OK when the residential population on the street was low a few years back. Now with all the new buildings coming up this is no longer suitable.

Couple of comments:
1. Morning 8AM-9AM and afternoon 3PM-4PM will be good times for the traffic study.
2. 3-4 months sounds like a long time to conduct this study. It will be much appreciated if the traffic study can be completed earlier since this is next to an elementary school.
Can you help us understand if this is the length of the study or whether the study is shorter but will only be completed then?

When we conduct traffic studies to determine if a change in traffic control is warrant, we typically collect traffic counts for a consecutive 14-hour period on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. We also make sure that schools are in session (if possible) and we do not count on holidays to ensure we are collecting data that is representative of typical conditions in the area. We have scheduled counts to be collect in the next 2 weeks. Then it'll take another 2 weeks for the data to be received by our office. Once received, we will analyze the data and share the results with you.

The Council recently approved a new ordinance to convert the intersections of Warren St and 1st St and at Warren St and Bay St into all-way stop intersections. The stop signs and stop bars will be installed within the next few weeks.

This intersection was converted into an all-way stop intersection.
