I think it's great that the fencing was removed; it definitely helps. But these last two accidents actually occured beyond where the fencing and construction were. The right turn lane and bike lane cross each other, such that the bike lane ends up between two car lanes, and cars frequently ignore the existance of the bike lane.

Painting the bike lane with bright colors, adding road markers, signs, and lights, and lane dividers would all help protect bikers by making the bike lane more obvious.

Now i fully understand as i travel route daily and was referring to the former usps site on the north side of chestnut, as i turn left towards market street. Will take shots tomorrow 9/23 @ 9 am, to have more evidence for reporting purposes, your list of suggestions is the key, i am with you until mission is complished. Now to get this issue reopened .

Thank you for posting the video. That is exactly the area I was referring to. And you're right, it is dangerous and confusing for auto drivers as well.

The bike lane needs to be more clearly signposted. I have come within inches of being hit. I'm not convinced that having cycle lane move left is even necessary, it could simply go straight across.

Philip, I have also wondered if it was necessary to have the lanes cross. I presume there was concern that leaving the bike lane close to the curb would cause the right turn lane traffic to back up at rush hour? Or cyclists were getting hit by people taking right turns? But causing the lanes to cross clearly isn't a safe alternative as it is now.

If the bike lane were along the curb, it may be that separate lights would be needed for cars turning right and bikes going straight, or maybe somehow incorporating the bike lane into the cross walk, although I'm not sure how that would work.

At the very least, as the lane is now, more signs are needed (and flashing lights), the lane should be painted a bright color, and lane markers/dividers should be used to keep cars from prematurely moving into the bike lane.

this is a very dangerous intersection, even as the road sits now. please fix.

i stopped taking this route in favor of market st due to the lunacy of roadway design and aggressive drivers. there was no consideration of cyclists when this road was re-designed and there's never a police presence here. I do see a lot of broken glass and bumpers though.

Disappointing to see that no action has been taken on this, and furthermore the same ridiculous system has been installed on the eastern side of the South Street bridge.
