Description
I am writing to request help from DPW with an ongoing safety concern and delivery trucks not being able to make delivery to the Willard Street Inn. It was recommended to me to call Philip Peterson at DPW and I left voice messages on Monday 5/6 and again this morning 5/8
Specific Request for 2 “Do Not Park between Signs” on either side of Inn’s South Entrance
• Photo Documentation - We can provide many photos of the problem with cars parking on the West side of S. Willard and extending over the Inn’s driveway blocking the entrance to deliveries and causing a true safety issue for exiting because the sight line is blocked in both directions (view to North and South)
• Current Parking rules do not prevent this problem. City’s parking team has been very helpful with towing of the vehicles parking over the entranceway. However the high frequency of this problem happening makes towing not practical.

Staff had a discussion with the originator of the request this morning. The resident would like Staff to recommend painting brackets near their driveway. The City requires three things to paint brackets near driveways:
1. A high rate of parking occupancy during peak times, at or above 90%.
2. A street travel width of 18 feet or less.
3. A documented history of multiple violations at a specific location.
This request does not meet the street width requirement; the travel width on South Willard Street is over 18 feet. Additionally, Staff looked at the last six months of data provided by the Police and there were only two violations in this area. Two violations in six months is not a statistical outlier and would not trigger the need for painting brackets. In order to be considered for painting brackets, there needs to be a documented history; consequently, DPW will not paint brackets near this driveway at this time. Additionally, all three of these criteria must be met in order to paint brackets. Please contact customer service directly at (802)863-9094 should you have any questions.
If you have driveway encroachment issues please contact Burlington Parking Enforcement at jking@bpdvt.org, (802)540-2185. The Department of Public Works has resolved this request. Thanks for helping to keep Burlington a great place to live and work.
