I gotta be honest with you - I've been commuting this exact turn since 1974 and it is not going to change. PLUS - they want to expand the bicycle lanes.

Oh please add a left turn signal at Seventh and Huron. So many folks turn left onto Arbana (at the Salvation Army) to avoid the light at Seventh then speed through our neighborhood to get to Arborview then Miller. (I live at the corner of Arbana and Arborview). It is awful during rush hour and when there is an accident on Huron and they are re-routed down Arbana. There are lots of young children in this neighborhood. I know my neighbor has contacted the city several times about the speeding on Arbana and Arborview. And the people using this as a cut through makes it so much worse.

The reason the traffic piles up is because there are too many people sitting alone in their cars driving when they could be biking or taking the bus. If you're commuting into and out of the city, just use one of the park and ride lots. Save yourself, and everyone else, the stress, hassle, danger, and pollution.

Polite request to keep the comments pertinent to the discussion: how to better manage the existing traffic conditions. There are many places downtown/on Huron where the traffic with *already existing drivers* does not pile up like it does at this intersection, indicating the intersection is just poorly designed. Sure, people 'not driving' can help alleviate the issue, but that's not possible for many (e.g. commute is too long with connecting buses or have disabilities) and is rather not the point. The traffic would be worse at this intersection than other parts of the city, even if many drivers 'disappeared'.

I'm simply pushing back against the notion that our primary concern should be facilitating the convenience of motorists. Taking the bus doesn't add significant time to a commute (even less if fewer people drive!) and they are ADA compliant to accommodate a range of disabilities. Further, having driven this area many times at rush hour, the backup is an incredibly minor inconvenience. Certainly not worth the investment to alter the infrastructure. That money would be better spent on protecting vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists.

I agree with this suggestion as well. There are many, many accidents at this intersection, both turning from 7th, and turning from Huron. This intersection needs improvement.

The signage going north/south on 7th at Huron is incorrect. There are two lanes, one turns left and one continues strait on 7th. The traffic lights for this intersection consists of two green lights which is wrong- it should be one green light for through traffic and a flashing yellow arrow for the left turn lane when the light is not red. Confusion about right away is measured in minutes during heavy traffic times and accidents are higher here than at most intersections. Also the sign immediately displayed on the traffic light bar does not reflect the actual pattern.

Nick- Huron is business I-94 a designated commercial corridor, most people using this intersection have no ability to bike or means outside of motor transport. The topic is to facilitate traffic to improve vehicle efficiency which will have the secondary effect of making things safer for pedestrians as well.

Hi Victor, it's simply untrue that "most" have no ability to bike or means outside of individual motor transport. I've used the park and ride on Miller many times, and it works quite well for anyone who works in the downtown core. Allowing cars to move more quickly does not make things safer for pedestrians, infrastructure that prioritizes their safety does.

I'm not a traffic engineer nor a politician nor a construction contractor nor a leftist. I am a realist. This area is not suitable for major road redesign. It is like the old adage - "If you don't want to hear the road noise, don't buy a house on the freeway." The road was here FIRST - you people chose to live here and drive this route. I've been doing it since 1972 - no problem.
