Description
Drivers do not yield for pedestrians and often drive very fast. Request for better signs or a speed bump at the crosswalks near metro and on Belcrest Road.

Thank you for your comments. I will share your concerns with the Project Manager for the City to see what can be done to address this problem. Also, a supervisor will check the streetlights at East-West and Belcrest, they had been repaired recently but we will double check to see that they are functioning properly.

The lights on Belcrest near the metro were working last I was there, but the original report reads more about driving behavior at the Metro crosswalk across Belcrest. Specifically it reads as a request for improved traffic controls for the crosswalk on Belcrest.
I can support the statement for reviewing the crosswalk and controls. Over the past few years I've witnessed many vehicles are not stopping at the crosswalk on Belcrest and drive above the posted 30 mph speed limit. Some exiting the Metro do not come to a complete stop at the Metro road to Belcrest especially at night and often people make a left where the road is posted no left turn and has a design to encourage a right turn. Some turning into the metro are approaching and turning in what appears above 30 mph of a less frequent occasion. I'm guessing these may be some of what the original poster was referring.
Might it be worth an evaluation of the crosswalk to be made a raised crosswalk aka speed table? - https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/speedmgt/ePrimer_modules/module3pt2.cfm

The City thanks everyone for their input about Belcrest Road and East West Highway. Unfortunately, the City does not have jurisdiction over either street, the intersections, crosswalks, or lights (traffic or overhead). We are constantly in contact with our counterparts at Prince George's County DPW&T and MDOT SHA District 3, and relay all complaints we receive from residents.
It would help greatly if residents called 311 or went to https://princegeorges-csrprodcwi.motorolasolutions.com/Home.mvc/Index to report problems with County Roads, lights, crosswalks, etc.
If it is a state road, please call 1-800-543-2515 or go to http://marylandsha.force.com/customercare/request_for_service
The more complaints the State and County receive, the faster they respond to the issues reported. You are always welcome to report them to the City and we can assist you in reporting them to the correct agency.
