The light at WaWa is there because WaWa wanted it. The citizen's concerns were ignored.
The ML King St ruination is there because the city feels those bicycle riders, skateboarders, rollerbladers and soon electric scooter riders take precedence over vehicles.

It's a most unfortunate circumstance but unless you live downtown, Old Northeast or in the Edge District, your concerns fall on deaf ears.

Correct, Wawa, a Pennsylvania company, paid FDOT for that light and FDOT installed it as 4th St is a highway. The city has zero say in it and FDOT has made that abundantly clear there and the Gandy fiasco.

Yes! From Gandy south to about 77th is horrible! Causes road rage with crazy impatient drivers! It's more dangerous not to keep traffic flow.

The area's commented about are bad but actually my complaint was meant to encompass the entire city. ALL the lights EVERYWHERE-- timing is horrible! It's amazing to me that there are actually paid positions with the city to manage the timing of lights....

R. Your complaint is well-focused. Many years ago, when I was employed by the local telephone company, we coordinated a city and county-wide system to monitor traffic flow patterns. This system was to allow the timed synchronization of traffic lights. The system is in place. Is it used in St. Petersburg? You would have to ask the presently elected Politburo.
From personal experience, intelligent synchronization does not exist in any meaningful way in St. Petersburg.. There was a time when it did but, at present, if you're on a cross-street, east/westbound involving ML King St. in the area the city has now re-laned to favor bicycle riders over vehicular traffic, the light timing is now 60 to 120 seconds.
In addition, Mike is correct. The traffic load has increased on 4 St No because ML King St. has turned into a traffic quagmire. In addition, businesses have financially suffered. This is not a concern of our elected officials.

Well said Westtech8383. Any response to that, @ city of st pete? And I agree, traffic load has increased on 4th St due to MLK..... I can't wait until Oct 1st, when the city implements their "rain tax" on us, so they can mismanage and waste even more of my tax money. Hopefully everyone remembers this for the next election. No one currently in there is getting my vote, bet on that!

St. Petersburg "public servants" are lawyers, real estate agents and people who feel it's below their dignity to return your phone call or email.
The city has a program of "complete streets" wherein preference is given to bicycle riders, skateboarders, and rollerbladers.
Complaints to the mayor's office and the City Council members office are generally ignored.
Letters to the editor are only published if the letters are acceptable to the Tampa Bay Times editorial board.
We've all heard the phrase, "It is what it is". Very, unfortunately, to those of us who work, who don't have the time nor the financial position to run for political office or choose to subject themselves to the Tampa Bay Times political & socialistic anal probe, only can hope we choose an honest council person to represent us. In District 2, that doesn't exist. We just have another political phony.

Yes westech8383...I've heard from St Pete natives the city public servants and employees have always been the worse. People that just do not respect their jobs and are lazy and irresponsible. Current mayor is the worse St Pete has seen. Yes, TOTAL phony. This will not get fixed. They just do not care.

Mistakes made at the ballot box can be corrected at the same location.

Primary is August 27th. General election is November 5th, 2019. Council districts up for grabs include 1, 3, 5, and 7. Snell Isle / Shore Acres area Ed Montanari has no one running against him. I truly hope residents do some research and do not allow existing members to retain their positions....

As stated above, was not speaking about any specific intersection. Was referring to timing of lights EVERYWHERE in the city.
