The below info was provided by PSE&G. Based on the info provided, I assume that since PSE&G has not completed the job that is why the area has not been filled. I hope that once the work is completed this issue will be rectified.

Jersey City: PSE&G Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP)

During the week of May 27, 2019, PSE&G crews will:

• replace gas main and services on Liberty Ave. between North and Bleecker Streets from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Liberty Ave. will be closed except for transportation related to school, emergency responders and clients of assisted services.

This project is part of the PSE&G Gas System Modernization Program (GSMP) to replace aging cast iron and unprotected steel gas mains in order to support a safe, clean and reliable gas system.

The mains and services will be replaced with stronger more durable materials which are much less likely to have leaks and release methane gas.

The new elevated pressure systems also enable the installation of excess flow valves that dramatically reduce gas flow if a service line is damaged, and provide better support for the use of high-efficiency appliances.

Potholes/Sinkholes will be referred to the appropriate utility agency for inspection and repair.

Please note that potholes cannot be repaired on days with heavy rain because the moisture will prevent asphalt from bonding with the existing pavement.
