A photo would help here, I think. Are we talking about the round yellow cylinder? Or the linear concrete jersey barriers? I just went past and was annoyed by the yellow cylinder on the odd side of the street, but I didn't think to take a photo (Didn't realize this issue was open) and maybe that's not what is being raised here.
The temporary barrier going into the bike lane is permitted. In order to properly create a distinction between the bike and car lanes, this measure was approved.
I'm not sure I was clear, and sorry for the delay.
In this attached photo, the yellow barrier extends significantly into the bike lane.
Because the bike lane is many times narrower than the vehicular travel lane, each foot of incursion into it is much more significant to bicycles than a comparable incursion into the travel lane is significant to automobiles.
But far worse is the similar barrel on the exiting end of the bike lane. That barrel is completely in the bike lane, and not at all in the vehicular travel lane. It presents a problematic pinch point for bicycles.
Is this particular placement what the original poster (RedBassett) meant? And is this placement approved, with the barrel so far into the bicycle lane? I don't want to hijack the SeeClickFix issue, but if this is the issue I do think it deserves another look.
I went by again tonight, and it's actually worse. Here's the entrance to the lane, which is fully blocked, more so than it was on June 18 when I took the above photo:
Anyone? Condition persisted when I read through Kendall Square at 4am this morning. (a) Is it supposed to be like this?, and (b) are my pictures what RedBassett meant?
