I mentioned this issue earlier this year at a Collingdale Council meeting. I wrote to PennDot about a PROPER Flashing School Zone and got a reply on how it is to be handled. I attended the SE District School Board meeting mentioned my concerns and presented them with a copy of the Letter/Reply from PennDot. the School Board will be contacting Collingdale Boro. I will be attending the Collingdale Council meeting on October 4th at 7:30pm - to see what the status is.

The school is located a block down. It is one of the only places where I see an active school zone that is not directly in front of a school. I do agree that the signage should be better and include flashing lights.

I agree this needs to be fixed while driving towards Mac Dade I've also had cars pass me. I even stopped a police officer and reported the car which and parked nearby but was told nothing could be done because the officer didn't see it happen. Why doesn't the school zone start and stop at the same point in both directions! I've never seen this any where else.

it ORIGINALLY started on hibberd ave ENTERING SCHOOL ZONE (when going towards aldan) BUT someone REMOVED the sign. the END OF SCHOOL ZONE sign that was at Hibberd (going towards mcdade) was moved to where to ANDREWS ave, i have complained that the signs dont match

To Mer: there are a few schools in a one block area, and the school zone is in front of one, the school is at the corner of Blackstone & Clifton Avenues it is in the Grace Church. It is an all boys academy. So please check into stuff before you post things.... And to the other one ( you know who you are) If you know were the original sings were just go by them however since the sign was moved that is because of the boy's academy that is now opened on Clifton Avenue. So that would change the school zone. I don't know how many years the school has been open but for the past few they even have be advertising w/a sign on the corner....

Hi JRZ, the school zone on the side of the street with the Grace Academy is not the side that there is a problem (btw the school zone on that side doesn't even start until a half a block past Grace Academy) The problem is on the opposite side of Clifton Ave heading towards Mac Dade- the beginning of the zone isn't marked with a normal school zone blinker and it then proceeds to go for 10 blocks. As for knowing where the signs originally were and obeying them- I have personally had Chief Adams tell me that it is an active school zone at the corner of Andrews and Clifton. What makes no sense is that it's only active for one direction and not the other. The whole thing is a mess and needs to be addressed.

WOW! Well you need to go talk to Chief Adams again cause the school zone starts between Beechwood and Hibberd or maybe even Andrews and Beechwood. And there is a End School Zone sign up at the old Paul Payne building (All-state Insurance building now). Now on the other side of the street~ The 40 year old sign to start the school zone is right after Chestnut Street and then it does not end, however you state that it ends after Andrews Ave, well there is no ending sign. Personally from what I have seen they need to slow down the traffic in this area all the time not just for the school. I have seen ppl get passed in the school zone so I know what goes on. I have seen the poor residents try to turn into their drives ways and are being driven around and even on the wrong side of the car. The cars fly down Clifton Avenue at like 45/50 mph. So why don't you address that too.....

The one starting at Chestnut and heading towards MacDade does end. There is a little sign posted high up on a telephone pole right in front of the church on Andrews. It's just silly that it goes on for so much longer than the other side and also that people don't even recognize that the 40 year old flashing lights are supposed to be alerting them to the fact that there's a school zone to begin with. I live on Clifton Ave and agree that people fly down the street and are reckless while driving it, but for right now I'll settle on having people drive 15 in the school zone so my kids don't get hit on their way to school by a lunatic that wants to prove a point to the "slow person" in front of them and fly past them at 45mph...too bad the borough doesn't agree...

I agree with this, the signs are not mark right, and SouthEast Delco is in charge of this and needs to do something about it, its not up to collindgale to control this.

It is up to Collingdale to control traffic. Every morning from 7-9 and afternoon from 2-4, it is a one way street in front of Harris Elementary. I have watched 4 people this year nearly plow into my daughter's school bus as they come flying up the street the wrong way. Yesterday, the street sweeper turned from Blackstone the wrong way onto Sharon with the Collingdale police right behind them. I don't care who has to fix the signs. They need to be fixed. Perhaps if the police came by and ticketed the people parked in the no parking zones in front of the school, ticketed the speeders and the people driving in the wrong direction, they could afford a few new signs.
