Description
Farnum Drive is the perfect biking workout route leading to the East Rock summit. It is one of the most picturesque drives in New Haven - yet often while biking there I see cars speeding there on the winding road.
I suggest adding the bicycle sharrows there as well as adding few more speed limit signs.
Finally one of those morons speeding around the East Rock got punished today. A gray SUV rolled over there today closing traffic for a while - the video presenting how "gently" a wrecker will treat your car after an accident could be some deterrent... maybe...

Traffic calming that slows speeds in the park to 10 miles per hour are the only way to make this road more usable for bike riders of all ages. There are some good examples in Darien, CT, that slow traffic for vehicles but do not create any interruptions for cyclists.
I agree that sharrows would be a good temporary measure.

@Sparkplug - I respectfully disagree. We do NOT need to waste more money for supporting the faster movement of automobiles. The ultimate goal is to diminish the dependency on cars as main transportation in the urban areas. There MUST be a level of inconvenience of using a car built into the system that will push us citizens to demand a better and more available public transportation.
I live in Fair Haven 1.8 miles away from The Green. It takes me 32 minutes to walk downtown, 12 minutes to bike there and 6 minutes to drive there. Considering that it takes always another 10 to 15 minutes and driving circles around downtown to find a parking spot (and pay for that), whenever I can, I bike there. Walking is just to long lasting option. I would LOVE to be able to use a reliable and frequent public transportation.
Back to East Rock and Farnum Drive - my strong NO to any attempts to widen that road allowing the morons in cars to drive any faster!
