Deskripsyon

After getting off the bus in southbound lane of Rt. 9 at Strickland Rd, I attempted to cross Rt. 9 after the light turned green. I was only half-way across the busy highway, when it turned green for the traffic to continue. I did not want to wait in the middle of the highway, so I continued and someone came very close to hitting me!

If you or any of the other 1000 people who cross at that light to get to the Park and Ride, pressed the Walk button at the pedestrian crossing, the light would be longer for you...
But despite saying that, I do agree that the intersection cannot handle all of the pedestrian and vehicle traffic. And I've always been of the belief that is a town and/or NJ Transit is going to implement a Park and Ride that it should add a pedestrian overpass in the interest of safety especially during the winter months when passengers in their dark winter coats are crossing these roads before sunrise or after sunset

Thank you, I was not aware to push the button. Also, if you put a pedestrian overpass at any of the Park & Rides on Rt. 9, they will be the most popular stops. Hope you can do this.

Pedestrians should NOT be walking against the walk signals at all. Patience is a virtue. Safety is of the utmost importance.
What if I decided that I did not want to wait for the green light and decided to go through it with my car? Would you be happy then?

Why not be an Adult and observe the traffic safety devices that are present for your safety? These are not optional; use common sense.

I agree with ANON and CAREFUL DRIVER. I live by this intersection. And for the seven years (since 2005), I have never seen any (who go off the bus) press the damn WALK button. I suppose using common sense is no longer common these days. And, previously to a month ago (circa 9/2012), the button was a bit far and out of the way to press. Now it is located in a more strategic place where everyone should be using it. There is NO reason why when you get off the bus, you can't press the button. It is just as frustrating for drivers to have to wait for you and 20 others to walk across the street even though the cross walk sign says "DO NOT WALK".
