When they put the new benches in 10 years or so ago I remember Amy Kuras saying that they want to make sure that bench backs are not against a sidewalk because they have found that people are uncomfortable with their backs directly against a walkway. So turning the bench around might not be so simple.
But I agree with Ken's larger point that people, esp. parents with kids playing, generally want to be able to see the park. Has the $7K that was contributed by the new apartment building going up on Henry & S. Industrial been expended? That money is earmarked for park improvements either at Rose White or at Frisinger -- and since Rose White is so much closer it'd be great to have the money spent there. Better seating sounds like a good use to me.
