Town Green District implemented a strategic removal of the trash can at this location. That receptacle was often used a dumping ground for large items and overstuffed trash bags from the local businesses and apartments, often prohibiting public use. Once the bag of trash was removed and set on the sidewalk then scheduled for pick up it was not only an aesthetic problem for the area, but was also susceptible to being ripped and rifled through. Consistent removal of these items was a strain on not only our staff that maintains the area, but created a very public eyesore on one of the most populated streets of downtown.

As part of Town Green Districts plan to improve the quality of life on the two blocks of Chapel from Church to State our larger, more economical and environmentally-friendly Big Belly trash compacters were installed at either end of the block to address the constant issues in that area. Pending further study of the area, we are looking into installing another Big Belly at the center of the block that would eliminate most of the problems you have expressed concern about.
