Yes, actually two overpasses: one overpass to Fawcett Street a connection for bikes and pedestrians to Fresh Pond and commuters to the Alewife T: and
the second overpass circa Jefferson Houses on Rindge Avenue, connecting North Cambridge to the Fresh Pond Markets, to the playing fields of Danehy Park, and to Hagerty School. Children are now bused to Hagerty, but could walk if not on the Parkways. I believe the latter is a Cambridge Policy: the Parkways too dangerous for children to walk as other children do off the Parkways.

I think either high-speed underground personal transports or several city-supplied helicopter (or autonomous drones?) would be a better solution.

Can you look into those ideas?

The City of Cambridge has been investigating an overpass, perhaps including transit vehicles too, connecting the Alewife T with Fawcett Street where there is substantial development already and much more to come. This, to provide walkable access that the 2005 Alewife Plan by Cambridge asserted a community asset. Then too is the “Equity” parallel bridge, including Transit vehicles, connecting Jefferson Houses and North Cambridge to the Fresh Pond Shopping Center, where lettuce and milk, for example, are cheaper than at the convenience store on Rindge Avenue. This second bridge would permit school children, now bused for safety, to walk safety to Tobin School. And, yes, these two bridges are over State and or rail property. And, yes, the initiative, some Cambridge money, some developers money, and state money will be necessary. And, yes, the responsibility of Cambridge is to initiated, push forward, and deliver pedestrian access for the benefit of its residents. Thank you for reopening this issue.
