Description

I am writing to request that the Commission review the traffic on Shorepoint Court, the cul-de-sac off Westline, just north of Shoreline.

I regularly observe people speeding well over 25mph, driving down the center, or driving on the wrong side of the road. The community that lives on this street includes children, the elderly and the disabled.

This road services apartments and condos, and has no cross traffic. It is a wide road, that is only painted with a double line for the first few feet off of Westline (pictured below). There are no other markings on the road. There are no crosswalks or signage, other than no parking signs and red curbs.

There are no streetlights on this road, which is lined with 3 and 4 story buildings so at night, it is pitch black. The South Shore complex includes facilities on both sides of the road, so pedestrians regularly cross. Other pedestrians include those arriving and departing in car services, and others enjoying the neighborhood.

This road needs to be studied and traffic calming measures implemented. Options might include some or all of the following:

- Painting double yellow lines down the full length of the road
- Installing a speedbump
- Pedestrian crossing signs
- SLOW painted on the road
- Other signage indicating children present
- Installing solar powered street lamps

I implore you to address this issue before someone is seriously injured or killed due to these conditions.

I am available at your convenience for further discussion on this topic.

Best regards,
Marisa Johnson
