Thank you for contacting the City of Huntsville Traffic Engineering. Based on our site visit, we determined that there is ample sight distance at this intersection. A crossing vehicle or bike would have ample distance to see an incoming vehicle and safely execute a turn or cross through the intersection.
The implementation of Multi-Way STOP-controlled intersections, is governed by federal standards that the State of Alabama, and the City of Huntsville by extension, have adopted by law. These standards are outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (“MUTCD”, or “Manual”), which is administered by the US DOT. For intersection to warrant Multi-Way STOP control, they typically must meet certain conditions, such as minimum conflicting traffic volumes, visibility limitations, minimum conflicting traffic volumes, etc. Thank you once again.
