I apologize for accidentally submitting before describing this issue fully! Our neighbors and we are concerned that even with the recent rains the water seems to be draining from the West Park pond. This situation is likely jeopardizing the abundant wildlife in and around the pond. Does the city have plans to drain this pond? Is there a way for the city to help maintain or support the pond? thanks
Thanks for submitting this, Lisa. I've been curious about the water level, too -- it seems oddly low considering all of the rain we have had -- but it didn't occur to me to flag it here for the city to address. I hope you get an actual response and not the generic and cryptic (and frustrating) "staff has addressed this issue to the best of their ability," with no apparent changes.
thank you for checking this out. Right now, the level of the water is dangerously low (that is, very dangerous for wildlife). We are very, very appreciative
Thanks for all of the concern about the water levels in the pond at West Park. For the past 3 weeks, the City of Ann Arbor Public Works and Parks Maintenance staff have been working along with the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office to investigate water levels at the pond in West Park. Inspections of all built infrastructure nearby have been completed, with no obvious issues that would cause a water level drop. Staff continue to evaluate alternative site conditions that may have caused the water level to drop. Alterations to the pond may be made to continue to the investigation. We will let you know when we have determined the cause.
Your request has been acknowledged and/or addressed to the best of staff's ability. A more detailed description of action taken by staff, if available, is provided in the comments above. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
