Statistically they are not that dangerous. If you're walking normally as a pedestrian and watching where you're going, you are quite safe.

Bull. They are still dangerous. Ride in bike lane. I was nailed by one on my motorcycle so I know how irresponsible some can be.

No form of locomotion is immune from people engaging in it irresponsibly, including walking. Better that we all try to share the roads and sidewalks and get along, than to demonize people who use a different manner of getting from place to place than we do.
