Description

How do we go about getting signs posted at Powers Farm to advise visitors to not feed the waterfowl, namely, the swans, geese and ducks? While the cygnets, ducklings and goslings often fall victims to natural predators, humans feeding bread and other inappropriate food contribute to their demise. Many in town are familiar with last year's case where the last cygnet was rescued by the Animal Rescue League of Boston. We learned that feeding bread to the bird likely contributed to it not being able to fly. The swans and their cygnets there are getting too comfortable getting close to people, which could be the result of people feeding them. Not only does feeding the waterfowl bread compromise their health, it fowls the water, rotting bread is unhealthy to wildlife. I've attached a sample of a sign, found other signs that may be appropriate, have talked with a Randolph resident willing to print signs if we create our own. Looking forward to your advice on how to proceed.
