This has happened to me numerous times as well. I live on this section of Jefferson and drivers regularly (~once every month) try to pass me and cut me off pulling into my driveway. We need more traffic calming devices/solutions on Jefferson between 39th and 41st Streets. 40th and Jefferson intersection has very high pedestrian and bike traffic and I’m also concerned that someone will get hit by a driver here.
Please call the Hyattsville Police Department regarding speeding and illegal passing when it occurs. The City project manager will also look into what solutions are possibilities for controlling speed in this area. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Please call the Hyattsville Police Department any time you observe the speeding or passing happening. They are constantly adjusting patrols and police presence based on the calls that they receive.
As far as additional traffic calming. Jefferson was one of the streets identified as needing work in the Transportation Study. The City in just now beginning the planning process for the various projects identified by the Transportation Study. Please be on the look out for additional information and public meetings to discuss the various projects.
The Community Action Team (CAT) is responsible for establishing collaborative efforts between the police department and the community by identifying and addressing problems of crime and disorder. They also act as liaisons to all of the schools located within the City of Hyattsville limits. Members of the CAT setup and attend community meetings, events , conduct traffic enforcement, and handle special projects.
