I agree. The arrow lights don't need to be on at all times, only if a lane is closed. If you don't know which lane you should be driving in normally then you shouldn't be driving.

The lights on the bridge will just be another problem in this very conjested area. Rush hour is a mess in the afternoons - lights at Grand and Rapallo need to be changed to alernating - so traffic turning left from Grand Street on to Main is not crossing in front of traffic turning left from Rapallo on to Main. The lights on 66 turning to go to Rt 9 need to be changed so that it doesn't back up Main Street. SOMEONE WILL GET HIT IF SOMETHING IS NOT DONE ABOUT THIS.

If the lights on the Arrigoni Bridge are supposed to be Christmas decorations, they are very festive. If, on the other hand, they are supposed to be traffic control implements, someone needs to be trained in how to use them. When you get on the bridge, you can pretty much see the span and the lights. If there's an accident or road work being done, there should be a red X in that lane, allowing traffic to gradually meld into one lane and move along, instead of suddenly coming up on a cruiser blocking the lane.

Look closely at those lights. They have no capability of changing from Arrow to X, as I would have thought would make them useful. I still have no idea what the point of those lights are.

Perhaps the lights are simply decorative. Like someone else said, what a waste of money. Does it surprise any of us why the state and cities are broke?

these lights are a JOKE. kind of like the new crosswalks on Main St in middletown. Did anyone think to fix the pavement on the bridge before putting up stupid traffic lights better suited for a REAL bridge? it just amazes me that the state or city has no money...i mean, i wonder why. Seriously, can someone do a news story on these lights explaining to the public what they are actually good for?

at least when i learned to drive i was told the double yellow lines meant the center of the road.. the lights are for the state workers on Hartford can say they did something with the bridge..never mind hartford controls them 8-3 mon-fri i checked on this..!! someone there must have GREAT EYESIGHT TO SEE ALL THE WAY TO MIDDLETOWN/PORTLAND..

Doesnt matter how good their eyesight is. Look at the lights closely. They can only indicate X on the left and Arrow on the right. The lights can't change the status of a lane. Pointless.

the lights may be a joke to some until you loose a precious life on the bridge as I did. the bridge was closed for 4.5 hours and you all complained the bridge was closed for so long. never can please any of you thick headed people! the lights are there so you can get to the other side of the river when there is a big accident like the one my loved one was in and taken from me. so stop being soooooo petty and get over yourselves. You all whom complain are the reason the lights are there you cried so much about the bridge being closed for so long and they fix the problem and yet it is still now good enough for all you fools ..... real dumb !!

It's great that you're using our site to get a dialogue going about this issue, but please refrain from using any harsh language, name calling, etc. I realize that people feel very strongly about the problem, for a variety of reasons, but keeping your comments positive and focused on a solution is the best way to resolve things.

The lights do not change from a x to a arrow I have look at them time after time ,so what are they used for ?They need to start putting cops on the end and catch all the speeders ,Something needs to be done about all the accidents and people geting hurt and not worry about people sitting in traffic

I believe the lane useage lights were installed in preparation for the major construction/renovation project that is currently underway on the Arrigoni Bridge. The construction project started about a month ago and will last about a year. They will be replacing the road deck and doing some other much needed repairs. This will require lane closures. During construction there will be only one lane open in each direction. There will be a few different traffic patterns on the bridge as construction shifts from one area to another. I believe the lane lights are to help the public understand the traffic patterns. I don't think the lights can be remotely controlled. It looks like they have to physically move each light box when the traffic pattern changes.

I'm so glad they actually removed lights when construction started. Way to waste money.
