As a parent who walks with their 1.5 year old to the East End House every morning, I can say that this intersection is quite dangerous. Sometimes we just stand on the corner and wave at several cars in a row because they never seem to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, either.

Especially w/ the new stop sign on 3rd & Spring, Scriappa has become a pretty unfriendly street for toddler foot traffic.

I agree with the sentiment. The alternating 4-way/2-way stops can be confusing. If you are a careful driver, you pause at each intersection anyway just to be safe.

I have lived near this intersection for many years and agree that it needs a 4 way stop to keep cars from racing down Spring St.

Yes, between the East End House, several families with young children, and the large number of people walking this neighborhood, there should be serious thought put into making all intersections 4-way Stops. The City should also consider establishing a 20mph speed limit - extending it out from Kendall into the residential area of East Cambridge. People living here should get the benefit of the slower speeds, not just the commercial area.

Thank you for contacting the Cambridge Traffic, Parking, and Transportation Department. We have visited this location and pulled crash reports as a result of your concern. There was one crash reported at this intersection within the past three years, however, it was determined to be a hit and run with a parked vehicle. We will install "cross traffic does not stop" signage underneath the existing stop signs to clarify the right of way at this intersection. Additionally, the City is now lowering the speed limit to 20mph on most streets in Cambridge, including both Sciarappa and Spring Sts.
