It's a shame this is not criminal. It would be nice to see the landlord responsible for thsis kind of behavior and forced to do community service.

It may be criminal as it encourages rodents, vermin and insects. At the very least, I hope the rent deposit goes toward clean up. It's doubtful ... This is the same area where furniture often gets dumped in the median, isn't it?

The young men who moved out of this house filled the mobile trash collection cans with trash on June 30 and bagged the remaining trash and put it on the front porch. They came back this week to put the bags they left on the porch in the collection bins and found that racoons (or some type of animal) had broken into the bags. They promptly cleaned it up and placed it in the cans. To my knowledge they have never placed any furniture in the median. They have called the City to request pick up of some furniture that has not been taken from the house so you may see that on the street this week if the City agrees to pick it up. They are college students and do not know everything at this point but I am helping them and will make sure that all is left in reasonable order. Thank you for all the kindnesses you have extended to these young men while they lived in your neighborhood......most of them extended anonymously of course.

I'm guessing the wild animals didn't leave the windows open and the A/C units turned on or open up the water spigot and leave it running for days. This rental property is a nightmare and should be shut down. The neighborhood shouldn't have to put up with nightly frat boy parties, trash, loud music, underage drinking and drug busts.

Thanks for reporting. I have referred this to the City’s Housing and Environmental Inspections Division. When the inspectors have had a chance to investigate I will post an update.

Mr. Black, I agree that college kids do not know everything at this point. I'm glad you are steering them in a more positive direction. But some of your neighbors do have valid points. They don't want to be buzz kills (well, maybe some of them do). Leaving the trash in bags on the porch was probably an oversight. Things like the water spigot being left on are really wasteful.

You are exagerrating tremendously. These are college aged men and I understand perfectly that there have been issues. There are three window ac units running set at 74 degrees to keep the house a resonable temperature. There have been no drug busts.....one gentleman was cited with a small amount of Marijuana back in the fall.....I have met the police to be certain I am correct. The gentleman moved out of the house the next week. There has indeed been a limited amount of underage drinking. We do not know who turned the water on.....it was not on when I was there last Tuesday or Wednesday. I check on the house frequently because I have a son who lives in the house and was made aware of the noise and party issues early on in the lease......since that time, there has been trash in the yard only occasionally and it was promptly picked up. I was in the house (and had been for over an hour) on one occasion when a neighbor called in a noise violation......there clearly had been no noise coming from that house.....the officer was apolgetic and acknowledged that he had frequent calls to that house that were without merit. We are very glad to be out of this lease in your neighborhood.

An inspector inspected the property on 7/8/13 and found no violations at this time.

From the sound of it, maybe Mr. Black and the neighbors need to sit down over a cup of coffee and chat. It's amazing what face-to-face communication can accomplish.
