Description
No sidewalk between Bolton Street and Main Street on Granger Boulevard. Kids from both Middle School and Assabet Valley are crossing at that area without a crosswalk and cars seems not to respect the crossers. Very dangerous. Need a crosswalk before school comes back please. I am a bus driver and have been seen this every day. Sometimes when we get there at the same time (both buses) we cover each other because we come in opposite direction) Please do something.

Granger Boulevard has four lanes of traffic travelling east and west. The major intersections on Granger Boulevard are signalized intersections that have exclusive pedestrian crossing phases (all traffic is stopped with red signals while pedestrian signal show WALK/DONT WALK), so pedestrians can safely cross in all directions. Unsignalized crosswalks, the length of four lanes of traffic is not safe for normal pedestrian traffic.
As a bus driver, when you stop to pick up and drop off students, you have the ability to stop traffic in both directions when the red lights on the bus are flashing. While the red lights are flashing and traffic has stopped, this provides student with a safe crossing for the entire width of Granger Boulevard. In essence, while the red lights on the bus are flashing, there is an unmarked crosswalk for the students to cross the road.
Should you wish to pursue this matter further, crosswalks can only be established by creating a regulation for the crosswalk location through the Traffic Commission. To have your request appear before the Traffic Commission, you will need to contact the Police Chief - David Giorgi (Traffic Commission - Chairman). The next Traffic Commission meeting is Wednesday - July 31st at 10:00 a.m.. The meetings are held in City Hall, on the 3rd floor, in Memorial HAll.
