Description
Happens every stinking day: I take the West Temple southbound detour at the 900 S West Temple interchange. At the point where we meet up with west temple again, as I am southbound, I DO have the right of way.
With VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS, traffic traveling south on West Temple (who have a clearly marked Yield sign!) never slow down and some have even flipped me off because I (safely) made the turn (or sometimes rolled to a stop because they were clearly not observing (or even aware?) of the yield sign.
I believe that additional road markings, or flashing lights (or SOMETHING other than leaving it as it is) is badly needed here. I have nearly been hit several times.

Agreed. I live right on this corner and I can testify to the fact that everything is not fine, Salt Lake City. The number of near-accidents I have witnessed is staggering. I wholeheartedly agree that this intersection needs to be fixed. However, I believe the intersecting street, Goltz, needs a stop sign (both for the south and north turns) rather than West Temple having a yield. Where else do you have an perpendicular, intersecting street that has the right of away over the traffic on the main, straight-through street being intersected? I know Jefferson into Goltz is a one-way, but it is never backed up off to warrant the right of way.
While we are talking about the Jefferson one way, can we also get a 4 way stop sign where Jefferson crosses Mead right under the overpass; people fly through there and a little girl has already been killed. Again there is not enough traffic coming that way, even off the freeway to justify only a 2 way stop. Put a blinking sign before the underpass to warn of the upcoming stop.

I agree, Mel. It’s a horrible interchange design, and local traffic should never have been diverted through there. Too many people zip right through there. Somehow they should have made SB West Temple offramp merge with local traffic ON West Temple. The mixed traffic on West Temple is already a “feature” of living on West Temple on those blocks. I grew up there so I know.
So sad that a little girl was killed :-( I see the cross there and remember how risky it was to cross that street on foot when I was growing up there. How tragic and unnecessary.
hanks for chiming in. I hope Mayer Jackie is paying attention here. :)

Hi Joni,
I have looked at the intersection in question and understand your frustrations. But unfortunately this is not a UDOT intersection. I have Informed Scott Vaterlaus with Salt Lake City of the issue and a possible solution. Sorry for the inconvenience. Have a good day and drive safely.
Thanks,

Please re-open or I’ll open a new case. This issue has not been addressed by the city of Salt Lake. We need action on this intersection.
I would like for the city to change the intersection so that people like me have to stop (not yield) and cars traveling south on West Temple (from the freeway exit or local traffic ) have the right of way. Doing nothing is irresponsible and ignoring issues facing an already ignored area of town.
