Description
I would like the city to reconsider adding a traffic light or stop sign on the intersection of 66th Street and West Shore Drive. It is more and more dangerous trying to get onto 66th Street between the hours of 3:30 and 6:30 pm. Cars are going much faster than the speed limit and I typically add another ten minutes to any trip to accommodate the wait time at the intersection.

Robert,
66th St traffic is becoming overloaded and plain dangerous nearer the bridge over Hwy 100.
Happy to meetuo if you want to discuss how we may organize the neighborhood to help Edina City with the changes. There are quite a few neighbors willing and ready.
Let me know,
Cheers,
Francis

Good morning Neighbor,
Thank you for your traffic safety submission. When it comes to installing traffic signals at specific locations, there are set warrants required by MnDOT that intersections must meet in order for the traffic signals to be utilized properly. The following web link is a web-page from MnDOT explaining these warrants: http://www.dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/publ/mutcd/mnmutcd2018/mnmutcd-4.pdf
Traffic signal warrants are looked at by eight, four and one hour segments. This will be how this intersection will be reviewed. As this is being studied, a lot of data is needed to make such decisions. We ask for your patience during this process.
If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to continue commenting on this thread or reach out to me directly at my information below.
Thanks,
Nick Bauler

Edina's Traffic Safety Committee reviewed this request and is recommending adding no stop controls or traffic signals as warrants are not met. The state of Minnesota sets warrants which intersections must meet for traffic controls and if these traffic controls are implemented improperly, they can cause a false sense of security and drivers learn poor habits and fail to follow those controls.
The Edina Transportation Commission (ETC) will be reviewing this request on December 19th at 6pm in the Community Room located at Edina City Hall (4801 W 50th St). This meeting is open to the public and you are welcome to attend. If you're unable to attend and wish to submit correspondence to the ETC you can click this link: https://edinadocs.edinamn.gov/Forms/contact
If you have further question, please contact me by phone or email that will be below.
Thanks,
