Description
This intersection is incredibly dangerous for pedestrian traffic. The walk sign is a joke, it takes up to 5 minutes for it to go on after pushing. It doesn't interrupt the cycle, the lights go for at least one more full cycle before the walk sign comes on. It's ironic that it's right next to a "Malden walks" sign, since this is such a poorly designed intersection it's truly frightening to cross on foot.

Hi Becky,
Thank you for your SCF ticket. You are 100% correct - this is a very busy and dangerous intersection. That is exactly why it is being reconstructed as we speak.
New crosswalks will allow people to cross over Main Street more easily and new walk and traffic signal lights will make it much safer.
The project has taken a very long time because we required National Grid to replace the gas mains which were over a century old. They also fixed one of the city's largest and longest running gas leaks at Main and Forest Street.
Please use extra caution while crossing during the reconstruction. The end of the project is in sight and I am sure it will be an improvement we are all proud of.
