Trucks regularly use Almena and usually at high speed. There are no sidewalks- I have to choose certain times to walk my dog. People who have come off Hwy 1 at commute times are frustrated and cut through Almena so fast they bounce off the bumps at 30 mph plus - they don't seem to care that they bang their heads or throw their car's contents around

There was a semi reported in the Marnell/Melrose area on January 13th...Bonnie Black has a picture of it going through a stop sign. The neighborhoor is doing its best to educate the city Public Works, Police and Businesses of the high-volume of commercial and commuter traffic parading through a neighborhood. This neighborhood is very old and established with multi-generations of families. It does not have sidewalks and yet because it is flat with cross streets is considered a great place to walk or with your dog and to bicycle. We are doing our best to keep the neighborhood one that doesn't need a cross-walk to get across the street to your neighbor and to keep the traffic to that related to the residences in the area. We are framed on one side by Hwy One that flows onto Morrisseey that borders it during commute times and hundreds cut into the neighborhood daily, the other side by very busy Soquel and Park Way where there is many medical staff and clients, car wash, and car dealership

Saw business trucks zooming at high speed down Trevethan last week...One was a white small pick-up Auto Parts truck...likely a commercial vendor on Soquel. We continue to monitor and will attempt to get pictures in the future.

Continue to see auto parts trucks from Nissan and Santa Cruz Auto Parts and Ford cutting through neighborhood weekly. Until I don't see them passing through daily, I will not remove this issue. Thanks for posting. Just yesterday, August 16, I saw a very large tow truck with a dump truck on a trailer trying to cut thru Fairmont to Alemna heading from Morrissey to Park Avenue. They couldn't make the turn so they went in the wrong side of the road (to the left) around the island where the stop side is to make it through the intersection and down the street. Clearly these intersections were not made for these very large trucks and extended trailers. This is NOT the first time I have seen this happen. I just happen to be outside and looked down the street when it happened.

I purchased TWO no truck signs commercial grade stock metal because city planning said they could not afford them, however, now they say they don't have the manpower to INSTALL them..Now I know where the expression "fighting city hall" came from. The city of s.c. does not want to "get involved' especially when these businesses owners are politically involved.

Just when we thought we had successfully pushed for truck route signs and educated the City Council and Public Works and the Businesses...now we have the possibility of Grocery Outlet...not exactly a "neighborhood store"....it belongs in a retail destination mall...not on a crazy 5 way angled street intersection where two lanes merge to one lane..it will cause major traffic jams..It is a poor location for this business. There is discussion threads with at least a 100 comments mostly negative about their proposed entry into the Post Office Building.

In the last half hour - After 1:15 and before 1:50 p.m. today Wed Oct 8th, 2014, I saw a large semi truck go north on Trevethan Avenue toward freeway...turned left on Parnell..and it gingerly went between Marnell and San Juan where there are overhanging trees and cables...It had to weave and it was clear it was not sure if it would make it through the maze of overhanging issues....This is NOT A TRUCK ROUTE.....! I ran outside and up Parnell in hopes of catching a better glimpse of the side of the truck, but couldn't reach it before it went to Morrissey and made a right towards the freeway.

In the last two weeks there have been a handful of large trucks/semis going down Trevethan...It seems to have picked-up recently...I typically hear a loud lumbering sound and it shakes the house alittle and by the time I some out they are further down Trevethan...They don't always try to turn on Fairmont instead going further to Roxas to get around the middle section that was placed there to discourage these types of trucks....And as I reported just previously there was one that turned down Parnell and had a tough time getting down the road because of cables above and trees. THIS IS NOT A TRUCK ROUTE.

A large truck with Central Freight on the side went down the street towards the freeway and made a wide turn and barely made if over the midsection and onto Fairmont towards Morrissey. THIS IS NOT A TRUCK ROUTE.

June 10th Around 5 p.m., Double-decker Transporter truck for cars was parked on Trevethan...near Soquel in middle of street. It had Expediter On side. with Telephone number 818-378-1214 and license 4MJ9814. He has headed North and took off towards Hwy 1 up Trevethan which is NOT A TRUCK ROUTE. He was avoiding cables and driving in middle of the street and couldn't make left on Fairmont so headed half block up and then stopped. I followed truck and when he stopped, I got out of my car and told him, he was not suppose to be in the neighborhood and would be challenged to get out from where he was because he couldn't go out where Fairmont was with roundabout...He then went left on Roxas and left on Marnell and then stopped again by John Frank Park. I turned around and left.
THIS IS NOT A TRUCK ROUTE AND HE BARELY MISSED CABLES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

I went to Walgreen's for ice and then came back up Trevethan about 5:25 p.m. and there was another truck in the middle (not to the right side) of the road unloading something with a forklift. It was gorlc.com RCL Carriers. I had to go around the truck and into on-coming traffic at a very busy time of day.

Note that the sign that is up on the right as one is leaving Trevethan and onto Soquel is gone in the bulb out. It has been hit and bent and now gone.

June 21 Around 2:40 p.m. Double-decker Transporter truck - Bright trailer and truck with the name LV Transporters on the driver side....Couldn't catch the phone number...headed up Trevethan and took a wide turn to attempt left at Fairmont and got stuck...Had to have passenger back the long trailer and truck out of the intersection and push the two cars waiting behind back so it could back out and then head straight up further on Trevethan Avenue. Car transporters are not getting the message from the used car lots and dealerships that they cannot maneuver in these neighborhood streets.

I recommend that a letter be sent from the Mayor as was done several times when Lynn Robinson was in office.

The point is that EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood has been used as TRUCK CUT THROUGH for over 20 years. Hundreds of phone calls, letters, postings to this site, letters to AUTO BUSINESSES on SOQUEL Avenue have been personally given letters ; signed from the past City Council member Lynn Robinson, Public Works and Eastmorrissey representive; to NO AVAIL. Public Works stated 6 years ago there would be NO THROUGH TRUCK TRAFFIC signs put on MORRISSEY BLVD-as there are on the **other side** of Morrissey Blvd to notify TRUCKS not to cut through to SOQUEL AVENUE, HOWEVER, even after neighbors bought signs, as requested by Raymond Burr, the signs were not put up. It is deplorable that City Representatives do NOTHING to stop the stead flow of cut through traffic through EASTMORRISSEY, nor the SEMI double trailer TRUCKS from using Fairmount Avenue, Trevathan Avenue, Marnell Avenue and Melrose Avenue as a THOROUGHFARE for the delivery of vehicles to businesses on "Auto Row" on Soquel Avenue. Specifically NORTH BAY FORD, VW NISSAN DODGE. TOW TRUCKS are constantly cutting through also from and to these and other Auto distributors on Soquel Ave.

At 10:29 a.m. June 16, 2016 The Police were called regarding a large truck with double decker trailer, cutting through EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood from Morrissey Blvd - Melrose Ave - Marnell Ave. The truck proceeded to load/unload vehicles on Marnell Avenue blocking traffic access at Soquel Avenue. On June 21, 2016 at 5:20 p.m. "L E N" huge red double cab double decker vehicle loader cut through EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood MARNELL Avenue-Melrose Ave. - Trevathan Ave. - Soquel Ave. On June 22, 2016 **two (2) enormous semi's -double cab/trailer red cut through EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood from Soquel Avenue - Marnell Ave - Melrose Ave - Trevathan Ave - Soquel. This has become a familiar 'LOOP" for delivery trucks to use when delivering to "Auto Row" on Soquel Ave., in which they pass by "NO TRUCK" signs. The cab was so high that it took off branches of my tree and barely made the turns navigating through parked vehicles. There are no sidewalks and pedestrians had to take precautions to get out the way of these trucks as they took up BOTH sides of the traffic lanes.

June 23 2016 12:36 p.m -dark brown Double-SEMI Truck with second 'dumpster' truck attached cut through EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood from Morrissey Blvd - Melrose Ave - Marnell Ave - SOQUEL AVENUE. The driver of the Semi ade 3 maneuvers to strategically round the corner from Melrose to turn right onto Melrose avenue due to it's size and the 'dumpter' it was hauling.

June 23 2016 1:00 & 1:16 p.m. above reported dark brown SEMI hauling truck has taken the route around and through EASTMORRISSEY neighborhood. I believe the lettering in yellow said "griella"

At about 1 pm. 3-level car carrier went down Trevethan Toward Soquel and turned on Eastgate. As it went down the street it drove on the middle or even the other side of the street to avoid tree branches and cables. At about 2 p.m. it returned up Trevethan and couldn't make the left turn on Fairmount so it BACKED UP THROUGH THE STOP SIGN AND ANOTHER BLOCK OR TWO to Parnell and backed into the street perpedicular to Trevethan and then turned around and back to Soquel and made a right. While it passed the second time I got the name on the truck - Percy Morgan Express - Livermove, CA. THIS IS NOT A TRUCK ROUTE.

This comment was from a neighbor on Pacheco today: " yesterday a trailer came down the street carrying 10 cars! I told him that he is not allowed in the neighborhood and that my son’s car was totaled etc. He backed up and did not continue on Pacheco."

Reporting semi going in two opposite lanes of Soquel between Park Way and Trevethan Avenue and then parking in the opposite direction in front of used car lot. They delivered large boxes to SC Bath and Kitchen down the street.

May 18, 2017 - around 3:20 p.m.

A large semi-truck WITH a trailer as long comes barreling down the street at high speed.

It stopped at the front gate of Barrios Unidos on the right with flashers and people stopped behind it thinking it was waiting for the light and then pulled around it. Then a FedEx Freight - large semi-truck made a left into Trevethan from Soquel and had to stop because it couldn't get around the truck it thought...and then gingerly pulled forward stopping traffic at the intersection as it maneuvered slowly...The driver said it went on the street because there was an accident on Ocean Street, but of course that is an unplausible excuse as to get to Trevethan you have to get off on Morrissey. The truck should have continued on Morrissey to Soquel. It would have to gone around an unsafe roundable....or on another cross street like Parnell which has low cables across the street. Trucks have taken out cables and so now they "weave" down the street avoiding cables....This is so ridiculous...!

July 17 2017 - around 11:20 p.m.
A large semi-truck with large ESTES branding lettering on the side came barreling down the street at high speed and then turned left on Parnell to avoid the Fairmount island and round-about. The trucks are now avoiding the obstacles to neighborhood entry on side streets. This is unacceptable and shows a complete disregard for the fact that this is NOT a TRUCK ROUTE.

October 24 2017 - at 11:21 a.m. - Volvo Car Carrier License 9F38898 was parked the wrong way on Soquel in front of the Nissan Car Dealership. They were unloading cars. They would have had to cross two lanes of traffic on-coming to park there which is very dangerous. Their car carrier wide extended into the right lane forcing cars to suddenly merge into the left lane. This is a real hazard that should not be allowed under any circumstances.

Last year Andy and Tony in our neighborhood met with City Council member, Richelle N. and Jim Burr.
Nothing happened....Have submitted this link to City Council member Chris K. who is passing it to Advanced Planning Sarah Neuse. Sarah said they have never heard of these issues. We persistent....as this is intolerable conditions and continues to get worst at unlawful speeds and more traffic on streets not designed for this type of traffic.

The City of San Jose and City of Monterey have models for how to manage growth and protect neighborhoods with mitigation measures for traffic. They City of Santa Cruz refuses to do so while promoting soon the Corridor Plan (urban channels) which is a nightmare for the surrounding neighborhoods. Trucks continue to come through at high-speeds on neighborhoods that do not have sidewalks and attempt to walk their dogs and children in the morning and evening and seniors and their caretakers throughout the day.

If you drive along Mission Street, you will see No Truck signs as one enters the neighborhoods from the main transportation corridor. I have not seen one of those on the Eastside...what is going on that would prevent the City Public Works Transportation Dept from being so unresponsive to a need that has been the case and presented to them over and over by various residents of different political persuasions for the last 15-years! Citizens have walked East Morrissey neighborhood caught between Hwy 1 and Soquel, letters have been written to former Mayor (who was responsive) and walked along Soquel asking businesses to direct the truck deliveries on the main corridors - it helped for awhile, and former presentations have been made to the City Council member (formerly Public Works Commissioner), Truck signs were bought...and then there is no action. This is not right and something is seriously wrong with the unwillingness of City Staff to be so unresponsive.

Talked briefly with Transportation Commissioner about lack of No Truck Signs at Trevethan and Park. Suggested we consider a sign regarding weight of truck. He is going to inquire with Jim Burr about what it takes to get signs up. At Santa Cruz Neighbors meeting, they will look up the letter that Lynn Robinson and City Manager sent to the businesses along Soquel and hopefully resend. It is worth noting that Lynn Robinson also took the time to talk to each
Business too. We have not seen that effort since Lynn Robinson was Mayor...and that has been a long time ago....we will see how it goes..so this post continues.

Trucks continue to block the intersection in the red zone. The businesses need to tell their delivery trucks to not block neighborhood streets.

Trevethan and Melrose was chosen by the City as 2 of 11 streets that are designated Slow Streets and signs say No Through Traffic. It has helped substantually. However, this is a temporary program during the pandemic. The City staff recommend to discontinue the program but TPW Commission suggested continuing through end of May 2021 with outside nonprofit partner through RFP.

At the corner of Trevethan and Alemena there is an island to ensure cars separate into right and left lane and not turn into the narrow street with on-coming cars - most is cut-through traffic. The sign on that island has been knocked down and now there is just a saw-horse. It is larger vehicles and trucks that knock down the sign over and over again. It should be made into a one-way street so that traffic cannot cut through to Park Way.

At the corner of Trevethan and Alemena, the sign has been removed. The Island is still there and it is pretty chewed up from trucks running over it.

There is a development proposed at the end of the street at Hagemann/Trevethan/Soquel intersection for 84 units. Need to put a traffic control measure perhaps with one-way out only for delivery trucks so that they turn on Soquel rather than go through the neighborhood to the freeway.

Trevethan first block has become a parking lot for large trucks and other heavy equipment for months now dealing with the Pure Water pipeline from SC City California/Bay along Soquel and then to Chanticleer / Hwy1 frontage.

There is a new development that will exacerbate the already challenge with trucks cutting through the neighborhood. A 84 unit development proposed at 1800 Soquel will cause more issues with traffic and trucks servicing that major development. There is a need for one-way designation out of the neighborhood at Trevethan as is the case with VanNess and other streets on Mission Street.

We are seeing Commercial uses of storage unit at 238 Trevethan. It is creating 30 dB above ambient and Vehicles in alley between Trevethan and Suburbia. City is not enforcing commercial use in neighborhood, noise violations and push for new owner of storage unit to have a utility easement across another property which was clearly not available when they purchased the property.
